Port Huron signs Steven Oleksy
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks announced that they have signed rookie defenseman Steven Oleksy. Per team policy, details of the deal were not disclosed.
Oleksy (6-0, 195 lbs) played collegiate hockey at Lake Superior State University in the NCAA from 2006-2009 and had 20 points (3g, 17a) and 110 penalty minutes over three seasons. He also played two games with the Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) following the conclusion of the Lakers 2008-09 season. The native of Chesterfield, Michigan returns to his home state after starting the season with the ECHL Toledo Walleye. He also attended training camp with the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League this fall. Prior to his college career, the 23-year old played one season with the Traverse City North Stars of the North American Hockey League where he served as captain and tallied 30 points (11g, 19a) and 140 penalty minutes in 57 games. He also won a national championship with the Great Lakes Panthers of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association in 2000.
