Port Huron Flags Cease Operation

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO - The United Hockey League (UHL) announced on Friday that a member club, the Port Huron Flags, is ceasing operations immediately. Unfortunately, the current ownership chose not to move forward with the operation of the franchise.

"We regret that we were not able to go on further with the Port Huron Flags hockey team, but we are happy that there are continued negotiations with others to keep the Flags in Port Huron for the upcoming UHL season," stated Charlie Barrett, Port Huron Flags Chairman of the Board.

“The league owes a lot to Charlie Barrett and the group of civic minded individuals that kept the Flags going the past two years,” stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. “They have allowed us the time to find new ownership that can hopefully be announced in the next couple of weeks."

The UHL hopes to have an announcement in the upcoming weeks regarding a new ownership group that will keep UHL hockey in Port Huron next season.

The uhl is a sinking ship and it's going down fast.

not yet. we will get 8 teams next year no doubt. but they way the uhl makes it sound we are still getting 10 because there is some new joining. but we will see. Dont think its going to sink yet. Alot of time for stuff to settle out.

They need to reconsolidate the league and get new blood in the administration part. It's obvious they're not going in the right direction. For one thing, fan's don't want to see the ref's call alot of penalty's EVERY game. They just need to go back to the basics instead of having a euro type-minor league system. I hope Missouri does'nt get a team if that's the way it's gonna be.

Is that counting the Lehigh Valley (Allentown, PA) and Williamport (PA) teams?

Thanks for the clip. I can always count on you to provide us with some awesome entertainment.
If PH is out of the uhl I think that makes 9 teams lost over the last 2 years. When is the uhl going to wake up and realize that this euro style, special teams dominated hockey is not working? Its not working at the nhl level, nor the ahl level either and those leagues have far more talent than that of the uhl.
And as bustoff said "fan's don't want to see the ref's call alot of penalty's EVERY game"!
I ordered 2 games on b2 this year and though the games started great with big hits, intensity, emotion and a few fights the refs quickly took the game over calling penalty after penalty until the intesity, emotion and the flow of the game was squashed. The once excited and loud crowd became very quiet at that point also and I can only assume they were as bored and disgusted in the stands as I was at home watching on my computer. Well that was the end of my uhl viewing this year as I will not pay even small amounts of money ($7) to be bored and disgusted (I can do that for free watching the nhl) and judging from the pitifull condition of the uhl and many of the posts I have read throughout the yeat I am not alone.
I've said it before the worst thing the uhl did was get associated with the nhl. The league has gone downhill quickly and I said it 3 years ago and it appears I may be right.
If this league does not blow things up, get new management and get away from the nhl style of play it will be gone in 5 years! Now with 2 years remaining on my prediction and with so many teams folding or leaving who can argue with me?

i agree with you, If we would just get away from the nhl style the league would be so much better and more teams would want to come.

Your right. With a much better product on the ice without the nhl style rules/play attendance would instantly rise as would profits. That would make the remaining teams want to stay and would make several other cities look to join the league.
