IHL President Paul Pickard Not Renewing Contract
ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Friday that Paul L. Pickard, IHL President/CEO, will leave his post with the IHL following the expiration of his two-year term as League Commissioner. He advised the IHL Board of Governors that he would not be seeking an extension of his current contract to return to the Kalamazoo Wings as team President, the position he held prior to becoming the IHL’s Commissioner.
“On behalf of the IHL Board of Governors, we express our appreciation for the efforts that Paul has displayed over the past two years,” stated Michael Franke, IHL Chairman of the Board. “We thank Paul for his leadership and wish him continued success in the future. Paul helped us lay the groundwork for the new IHL and we are grateful to him.” Pickard became Commissioner of the IHL in June of 2007 when the League was transitioning from the United Hockey League (UHL) to the IHL. During his time as Commissioner, Pickard successfully built a strong business model with the IHL Board of Governors. With Pickard’s guidance, the IHL has prospered both on and off the ice. He successfully transferred the League office from Missouri to Michigan while achieving the organizational, operational and financial goals he set in place for the League. The IHL Board of Governors has begun the interview process in their search for the League’s next Commissioner.
