Tulsa Signs Larry Sterling

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League announced today the signing of goalie Larry Sterling for the 2012-13 season.

Sterling, an eight-year veteran, played 37 games last season for the Dayton Gems and recorded a .922 save percentage, third best in the CHL.

“Larry is going to bring a great presence in our locker room,” said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. “He’s had tremendous success at the Double-A level and he’ll bring consistency, stability, and leadership to the goaltender position.”

Sterling’s professional career began in 2004 with the Fort Worth Brahmas. The 29-year old stopped pucks for two years with the Brahmas before moving on to the Mississippi Riverkings. During the 2006-07 season, the 6’2” 180-pound netminder led the CHL with 31 wins and was selected to the All-Star team. After the 2007 campaign, Sterling, a Michigan native, returned to his home state to play for the IHL’s Port Huron Icehawks. In three seasons in Port Huron, Sterling averaged 25 wins and a 2.65 goals against average. Sterling returned to the Riverkings for one season before landing with the Gems in 2011.

“No one wants to win more than Larry Sterling,” said Ramsay. “He competes every single night and he wants to win a championship. He believes we can accomplish that here in Tulsa.”
