Thunder Re-Sign Chris Greene; Sign 4 Others

Wichita, KS (October 5th) – The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League announced today the team’s training camp schedule, which will open on Monday, October 8th and will conclude with an exhibition game against the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday, October 13th. The team also announced the roster for training camp, including re-signing forward Chris Greene and the addition of forwards Chad Painchaud (PAIN-show), Ryan Sparling, Adam Mueller, and goalie Kamil Jarina.

Greene, 27, returns to the Thunder for a third-straight season. In total, this will be his fifth year in Wichita as he played in parts of 2007-08 and 2008-09 in Thunder blue. A native of Massena, NY, Greene tallied 20 points last season (7g, 13a) while adding 10 points (3g, 7a) during the team’s playoff run. In 296 games in the CHL, Greene has scored 123 points (28g, 95a) and piled up 407 penalty minutes.

Painchaud, 26, split time last year with the Reading Royals and Chicago Express of the ECHL. A fourth round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers, Painchaud enters his seventh season as a pro. The Mississauga, Ontario native adds another scoring threat to the line-up, racking up 285 points (120g, 165a) in 306 games in the ECHL. In 2009-10, Painchaud had a career-best 68 points (30g, 38a) in 65 games with the Victoria Salmon Kings. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward has also spent time in the AHL, with stops in Chicago, Manitoba and Iowa.

Sparling, 24, spent his rookie season with the Laredo Bucks of the CHL and joins former teammates Dave Inman, Torrie Jung, Neil Trimm and Matt Boyd in Wichita. A native of Sydney, Nova Scotia, the 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward tallied 45 points (16g, 29a) in his first year as pro. He had a very successful junior career with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL, racking up 217 points (83g, 134a) in 247 games.

Mueller, 23, begins his first season of professional hockey. The Roseville, Minnesota native was a four-year letter winner at Minnesota State University at Mankato. In 121 games, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward scored 28 points (9g, 19a). Mueller played his junior hockey in the NAHL, splitting time with the Springfield Jr. Blues and Wasilla Spirit in 2005-06.

Jarina, 36, enters his 14th season as a pro. The Most, Czech Republic native has played the last three year with SK Kadan of the Czech2 league. In 17 games last season, Jarina had a goals against average of 2.55 and a save percentage of .921. The 5-foot-10, 154 pound netminder has spent his whole career in the Czech Republic.
