Mavericks Re-Sign Thinel, Pszenyczny, Courtney and Dickson
Independence, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced the team has re-signed four players for the 2013-14 season. Forwards Sebastien Thinel, Andrew Courtney, John-Scott Dickson and defensemen Dave Pszenyczny will all return for the 5th season of Mavericks hockey.
“With these signings, we add four talented players that will be entering their 3rd full seasons with the Mavericks. They represent a strong nucleus that encapsulates what it means to be a Maverick,” said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Scott Hillman. “They all have great character and are committed to the success of this franchise. We all have felt the heartbreak of the game 7 loss in each of the last two years together and this group is committed to help get us over that hump. We could not be more pleased than we are to have these fine men and their families with us as we enter our fifth season and strive to capture the CHL championship.” Thinel, 32 (3/24/81), led the Mavericks in points last season with 96 points (19-67=96) in 66 games played. The St. Jerome, Quebec native joined an elite club two seasons ago while playing with the Mavericks when he became just the seventh player in the 20-year history of the league to record his 700th CHL point. Thinel was voted Best Overall Player, Best Playmaker, Most Valuable to his team, Most Gentlemanly Player, Best Overall Player among others in the 2012-13 Best of the Best poll. The 6-foot-1, 212-pound forward has eclipsed 80 points in the last seven seasons he has played in the CHL and he has a total of 825 points (287-538=825) in 633 games played in the CHL. Courtney, 28 (6/8/85), returns to the Mavericks for his third season. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound forward finished with 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 44 games last season with the Mavericks. A native of Belleville, Ontario, Courtney had an impressive playoff run with the Mavericks last season finishing the playoffs with 13 points (9+4=13) in 13 games, including 2 goals in game 5 of the CHL Semifinals to force a game 6 against Allen Americans. Prior to joining the Mavericks, Courtney played 106 games over the course of five seasons with the University of Lethbridge where he accounted for 72 points (44-28=72) and 172 penalty minutes. Dickson, 29 (4/10/84), heads into his third season with the Mavericks. The North York, Ontario native finished third in points for the Mavericks with 48 ((21-27=48) points and he was one of just two players to play in all 66 games last season. Prior to turning pro, he played five seasons for the University of New Brunswick and won two CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) National Championships. He finished his collegiate career with 50 goals and 78 assists for 128 points in 111 games played. Pszenyczny, 28 (2/18/85), is also returning for his third season with the Mavericks. The 6-foot, 191-pound defenseman amassed 53 points (20-33=53) in 120 games in his first two seasons. Pszenyczny was also voted as one of the best defensive defensemen for the 2012-13 season. Prior to coming to Missouri, Pszenyczny played three seasons with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and accounted for 20 goals, 34 assists and 359 penalty minutes in 170 games played. He won the 2011 Presidents’ Cup Championship with the Mudbugs. From Sterling Heights, Michigan, Pszenyczny played his first two seasons in the ECHL with Phoenix, Alaska and Reading. He also played four games for the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Toronto Marlies during his rookie season. In total, Pszenyczny has 133 points (45-88=133) and 708 penalty minutes in 346 games played as a pro.
