Laredo signs former NAHL all-star Eric Giosa
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Friday that they have signed 2005 NAHL All-Star Eric Giosa for the 2009-10 season. Giosa is expected to be in the line-up Friday night when the Bucks take on Arizona.
Giosa attended AHL training camp with Grand Rapids prior to this season. Giosa (pronounced GEE-oh-sah) started his professional career last season playing in four games for the ECHL's Reading Royals, making him still rookie status (25 pro games or less). The 25-year-old Giosa scored no points and picked up four PIM's for the Royals last season. "We need another quality center on our roster," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "I've heard a lot of good things about Giosa's play, and I feel he can help us here." Prior to turning pro at the end of last season Giosa played four years of college hockey for Sacred Heart University, playing in each regular season game over his last three years. Giosa, 5'11, 185 pounds, finished his career with Sacred Heart with a total of 84 points, 29 of which came in his senior season. In his senior season Giosa notched career highs in goals (16) and points (29), to go along with 13 assists. Giosa played two years of junior hockey for the NAHL's Toledo Ice Diggers, where he garnered All-Star Honors in 2005. In two seasons with the Ice Diggers Giosa 60 points (27-3360), with 46 of them coming in his all-star season.
