David Simoes Traded To Rapid City
(Rapid City, SD) - Today, the Rapid City Rush, in conjunction with the Allen Americans and Central Hockey League (CHL), announced a trade that will bring in defenseman David Simoes in exchange for future considerations.
Simoes is in his fourth professional season, all of them in the CHL. Simoes skated for the New Mexico Scorpions, Youngstown Steelhounds and Mississippi RiverKings before beginning this season with the Allen Americans. "Dave brings a great amount of toughness and a tremendous work ethic to our hockey club," said Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras. "He competes hard every night and is capable of playing both forward and defense and is a great character guy in the locker room. He is the type of player that is committed to winning and will lead by example." Simoes, a native of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, appeared in 25 games for the Americans this season. During his time in Allen, Simoes totaled eight points (2g, 6a) and 46 penalty minutes while tying for the team-lead with a plus-23 rating. For the past two years, the 5'10" 205-pound defenseman/wing skated for the Mississippi RiverKings, compiling 30 points (6g, 24a) and 365 penalty minutes in 114 total games. Simoes, 25, turned pro in 2007-08, splitting time between the New Mexico Scorpions and Youngstown Steelhounds and amassing a career-high 236 penalty minutes. While with the Scorpions, Simoes played alongside current Rush teammates Vladimir Hartinger, Konrad Reeder, Kevin Harvey and Andrew Smale.
