Daniel Amesbury to Tulsa

TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers announced today the signing of defenseman Daniel Amesbury who will make his CHL debut tonight when the Oilers take on the Wichita Thunder.

A 6-1, 210 pound blue-liner, Amesbury arrives in Tulsa after playing the first 11 games of the season with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In just his second season as a pro, the Maple Ridge, British Columbia native has already developed a reputation as one of the toughest fighters in all of minor pro hockey. Amesbury began the 2011-12 season in Columbus by fighting three times in his first game and went on to lead the SPHL in both majors (34) and penalty minutes (250).

“One of my areas of concern has been the toughness of my team,” said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. “I don’t think there are many guys out there who are tougher than Daniel. He brings a physical presence to our roster and I know he’s not going to back down from anyone. I think he’s earned this opportunity and I know our fans are going to be excited by this addition.”

Before turning pro in 2011 with the Danville Dashers of the Federal Hockey League, Amesbury spent three seasons in the Pacific Junior Hockey League where he accumulated 1,007 penalty minutes in 126 games.

“Our team has been struggling lately, and we need to shake things up and make some changes,” Ramsay remarked. “I think Daniel can be a guy who will not only energize our team but he’ll also entertain our fans.”

Gonna miss his presence in Columbus. Doesn't have a whole bunch of hockey skill but the guy will fight anybody and is an entertainer

Any details on how long he'll be up there?

Good signing. Everyone else (except for Fort Worth) is about 10 times tougher than Tulsa, minimum, and they were finally tired of getting pushed around.

That ends my road trips to GA

Wow, stopped in Columbus last December and saw his first home game, had not even heard his name and was watching Mitch Wall for possible fight.

Have driven 14 hours round-trip five times since then, and subscribed to SPHL on-line deal last year.

Really entertaining player - good for him and good for Tulsa fans!

Guess I am now a whatever team Bouton-Gagnon [sp] plays for fan [btw - in retrospect he handled Mirasty at the last game I was at].

All the best.

Boutin-Gagnon plays for Pensacola. I wouldn't want to be a fan of theirs.
