Cutthroats Sign Kyle Quincey

DENVER, CO - The Denver Cutthroats announced today Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey has joined the team's roster for the start of the 2012-13 Central Hockey League season.

Quincey played each of the past three years in Denver for the Colorado Avalanche before being traded from Tampa Bay to Detroit in exchange for a 2012 First Round Pick. The Red Wings drafted Quincey in the fourth round of the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

"After spending some time with Mr. Hayes, I realize we have a common desire to further the development of youth hockey in Colorado which is a primary focus of the Cutthroats," said Quincey. "Being able to do that while playing for a coach who has helped me throughout my career, and staying home in Denver, is an ideal situation for me considering the circumstances."

The Kitchener, Ontario native has appeared in 257 NHL games scoring 18 goals and 95 points. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound defenseman began his pro career in 2005-06 with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. During his first three seasons professionally, Quincey split time between Grand Rapids and Detroit - appearing in 201 AHL and 13 NHL contests.

"We're excited to have him," said Cutthroats Head Coach Derek Armstrong. "It is unfortunate there's a lockout, but this gives Kyle a chance to stay competitive, continue his conditioning, and at the same time bring some valuable leadership, skill, and experience to our club."

Quincey became a full-time NHL player in 2008-09 when he appeared in 72 games for the Los Angeles Kings registering 38 points on four goals and 34 assists. He was teammates with Armstrong that season.

In his time with the Avalanche from 2009-12, Quincey skated in 154 games tallying 11 goals and 53 points over that span.
