CHL Announces Franchise Changes for 2013-14

GLENDALE, AZ - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that there will be several franchise changes heading into the 2013- 14 season with the addition of the Brampton Beast and St. Charles Chill, while the Bloomington Blaze and Fort Worth Brahmas will not play in the upcoming season.

The Beast will be the CHL's first Canadian franchise and will play out of the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario. The Beast announced several weeks ago that former CHL player and assistant coach Mark DeSantis will be behind the bench leading the team's inaugural season.

The Chill becomes the second CHL team in the state of Missouri and should forge an exciting cross-state rivalry with the Missouri Mavericks (Independence, Missouri). The Chill will play out of The Family Arena and will be coached by former NHL defenseman Jamie Rivers.

The Blaze and Brahmas both will not participate in the upcoming season.

The Brahmas joined the Western Professional Hockey League in 1997 and during their tenure, won the CHL title in 2009. The League is working to find a more suitable venue for the club to return to play in 2014-15. The club previously took a one year hiatus (2006-07) while switching venues.

The Blaze just completed their second season in the CHL.

All Bloomington and Fort Worth players have been declared unrestricted free agents within the CHL.
