Victoria's Gomez Suspended Regular Season, Playoffs

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL announced that Victoria left wing Robin Gomez has been suspended for the remainder of the 2007-08 regular season and the entirety of the Kelly Cup Playoffs for his actions in ECHL Game #702 against Las Vegas on Mar. 1.

Gomez has also been fined him the maximum amount allowed under Article X, Section 5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association.

Gomez left the players bench and proceeded to throw a forceful punch, deliberately injuring an unsuspecting opponent.

Gomez was assessed a minor penalty for instigating, a major penalty for fighting and a match penalty under Rule 21.1 - Attempt/Deliberate injury at 9:34 of the second period.

i was at that game

I was actually at the game and it had to be one of the worst cheap shots I have ever seen. Ferraro is also what 5'9"ish? I used to be a Gomez fan but I have lost ALL respect for him after that.

To the Salmon Kings..... Trade the goon that can't control his head!!! He is only played if the team is losing anyways!!!

Gomez played in the UK for my team, Manchester Phoenix, for the first part of last season. He handed out a fair few beatings to guys who thought they could wipe the floor with him. Jeremy Cornish being the most notable one.

He lost his temper a few times from what i can recall, but nothing on this scale. Pretty sad state of affairs.

Just wonder what made him go nuts in this instance, as i doubt he would have done this for nothing.

hockey fighter... someone deserves to be "sucker-punched" by a guy who has 50 lbs on him????? REALLY? I don't care what Ferrarro may have done/said.

That would be like Laraque "sucker-punching" Kariya!!!

Gomez had several good seasons behind im in ECHL where he scored 10+ goals and had 25-30 points.
Which I think would have been good enough for him to be a regular tough guy in AHL, but he only was there for short stints.
Then he went to the UK this season and came back to ECHL and has not put up many points at all.
Seems like his career has headed the wrong direction this season and now to top it of this.

Video would be interesting to see.

Disagree,
they way the games now played puzzies like Ferraro think they can hide behind the rules, be pests and gutless dirty players without being held accountable. I did not see the incident obviously but it's nice to see once in awhile these guys do get paidback. It's a shame he was suspended for so long but hopefully Gomez lands on his feet and is able to play with someone else in another league.

I was there

I know I agree with the smaller players that dish out the lip ect. then try to hide behind other players. They do deserve what's coming to them. That being said I think there is several other ways to get back at those types of players without the disgusting blind-sided cheap shot. (hard hit with his head down, facewash with the glove ect).

Perhaps someone more equal in size couldda gone after him as well, such as Darryl Lloyd. (just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.)

I was there and it was VERY nasty as he wasn't even remotely looking in the direction of the shot either.

I know what you mean that being said leaving the bench to sucker someone is a dumb move, and it also pretty gutless.

Can someone who was there and saw the incident tell us at what time in the video clip that it actually happened?
