Titans Acquire Kelsey Wilson and Justin Taylor in Separate Trades
TRENTON, NJ – The Trenton Titans, members of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers, have announced the trade of defenseman Mitch Versteeg to Kalamazoo in exchange for center Justin Taylor. In a separate transaction, the Titans have acquired Kelsey Wilson from San Francisco for future considerations.
A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Versteeg (6-1, 197) began his ECHL career with Kalamazoo in 2009. In two seasons with the Wings he played 128 regular season games, recording 39 points and 186 penalty minutes. Coming to Trenton in 2011, Versteeg had 17 points (5 G), 79 PIM and a +5 rating over 59 games during his one-plus years with the Titans. This season he had a goal, 4 assists and 13 PIM in 11 contests.
The 23-year old Taylor (5-11, 195) also made his ECHL-debut with the Wings. A sixth-round (180th overall) pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2007 NHL Draft, the Mindemoya, Ontario, Canada, product had 97 points (48 G) with 239 PIM in 129 regular season appearances over the last three seasons with the Wings. This year he had three assists and 17 PIM in 11 games.
Wilson (6-1, 210) is a left winger from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, who played eight games with San Francisco, picking up two assists and 42 PIM. Wilson has spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals (2006-09, 10-11) and the Toronto Marlies (2011-12). During those five seasons he scored 106 points (47 G), had 795 PIM and a -18 rating in 365 regular season games.
