Thunder Re-Sign Matt Reber
STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today the team has re-signed right wing Matt Reber (REE-ber). Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Reber, 23, is the sixth player to return to Stockton from last season’s team that advanced to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The 6-foot-2 and 185 pound forward was acquired from the Utah Grizzlies on Jan. 24, 2012 in exchange for center Jordan Foreman. Reber responded by posting a goal and an assist in his first three games with the Thunder and finished the season with 11 goals and 36 points (11g-25a) in 66 games.
“The addition of Matt came at a critical point last season,” said Thomas. His speed and ability to create offensively gave us some much needed production in the second half. We are looking forward to him improving his overall game and being a threat each and every night.”
He suited up in three Kelly Cup Playoff games last season and has collected 11 points (3g-8a) in 11 postseason games with Stockton and Utah.
The Edina, Minn. native skated at Dartmouth College (NCAA) for four seasons (2007-11) and scored 68 points (17g-51a) in 122 games. Reber enjoyed a career high 26 points (5g-21a) in 29 games as a 2009-10 junior.
“Having the security of knowing where you’re playing ahead of the season is a plus,” said Reber. “I’m happy to be coming back to a team that’s youthful, improving and confident in contending for a championship. Playing in Stockton is hard if you’re a visiting opponent and great if you’re wearing the Thunder jersey. The fans are resilient, faithful and proud. I can’t wait to come back to big crowds this season.” via thunder twitter
