Reign Sign Colton Yellow Horn

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have announced the signing of left winger, Colton Yellow Horn.

“I’ve always heard that the Reign is a good organization,” Yellow Horn said. “I’m looking forward to having a fresh start in a new city, getting back to the coast and hopefully getting called up. I can’t wait to play with some of the guys I grew up with here at the pro level.”

Yellow Horn, 25, will don a Reign uniform for the first time in his professional career. The Brocket, Alberta native comes to Ontario from the Central Hockey League’s Allen Americans. Last season he recorded 55 points (24g, 31a) and 35 penalty minutes in 58 games with the Americans. During the 2010-11 season he led the team with a career-high 88 points (33g, 55a). That same season he was nominated for the CHL’s Most Valuable Player award.

“[In Ontario] I want to live up to the expectations I had for myself last year. I’m an offensive player so I’d like to score a few goals and bring a strong work ethic to the team,” Yellow Horn said.

The 5-foot-6, 174-pound winger played between the ECHL and the CHL during the 2009-10 season. Yellow Horn played for the Stockton Thunder and Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and then began his time with the Allen Americans. Over the course of the season he earned 45 points (12g, 33a) and 51 penalty minutes in 58 games. He made his North American professional debut in 2008-09 with Elmira; recording 11 points (5g, 6a) and 10 penalty minutes in 24 games. Before Elmira, Yellow Horn played in the Austrian league for Salzburg EC for 11 games where he earned 3 points (1g, 2a) in 11 games.

Reign Head Coach Jason Christie is very excited to have Yellow Horn join the team and describes the winger as, “Skilled, energetic, and feisty; a strong player our team will really benefit from having.”

Prior to turning pro, Yellow Horn spent five seasons playing major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL). While there he played with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Tri-City Americans. During his junior career he tallied 349 points (153g, 196a) and 248 penalty minutes in 330 games. In 2008 Yellow Horn was named to the WHL West First All-Star team.
