The Wheeling Nailers
, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins
and Montreal Canadiens
are excited to announce a transaction for the upcoming season. Wheeling has signed forward Cam Fergus to a one-year ECHL contract.
"Cam was here for a limited time last season, so I am excited to see the type of impact he can make with more time under his belt," said head coach Clark Donatelli
. "His offensive numbers have been strong throughout his career, and we believe that can be the case here as well," he said.
Fergus, 26, joined the professional ranks at the end of the 2011-12 season, and proceeded to dish out three assists in eight regular season games with the Nailers, before appearing in four postseason contests. Cam's journey to the pros began in junior hockey, when he spent parts of two seasons with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers
, before switching to the QMJHL, where his career began to take off with the Gatineau Olympiques
, and eventually, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles
. His final season with the Screaming Eagles (2006-07) was by far his best, as he totaled 53 goals, 45 assists, and 98 points in 63 games, while helping to lead the club to within one game of the President's Cup Final. The following year, the Brantford, ON native began a five-year career at St. Mary's University (Halifax, NS), that saw him record 78 goals, 108 assists, and 186 points in 134 games.
