Per Mike Hoffman.

I take it, this isn't the Mike Hoffman who was playing in the QMJHL recently.

Wow, the ECHL? I figured Hoffman was the next minor league guy to make the NHL. All the broken hands are setting him back.

Hoffman should be in the AHL easy.. He's one tough guy who has improved each year as an enforcer..

good to see this guy at least playing somewhere. Hopefully he gets a call up this year, or if not, at least next year.

He is still playing in the QMJHL.

He is drafted by (and property of) Ottawa Senators so it's unlikely he'd end up in the ECHL with Florida.

The Florida Everblades are close to signing former AHL skater Mike Hoffman to a contract and the 6-foot-5, 248 pound defenseman could be in uniform as early as Wednesday night.

Team president and general manager Craig Brush didn't confirm the signing, but didn't deny it either.

"I can’t say it’s true at this moment but it could be true in the future," Brush said.

Hoffman, who could be the enforcer that the Everblades have lacked so far this season, played in 61 games for the Chicago Wolves last season, scoring four points and recording 89 penalty minutes.

During the 2004-05 season, as a member of the Cleveland Barons, Hoffman recorded 170 penalty minutes in 58 games.

Hoffman, who played two years of college hockey at the University of Connecticut, spent part of the 2003-04 season with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL, playing in 25 regular season games and eight playoff games.

It remains to be seen if the Everblades will release another player to make room for Hoffman. Florida's roster currently stands at 23, but opened the season at 25.

A true enforcer, the big question is will he find a dance partner any time soon? he is a big boy, pure AHL tough guy, I really don't see youngsters wanting to tangle with him. Other then that, Great signing Florida.

There are a good number of teams with ECHL heavies who might be looking to prove themselves against a AAA-proven heavy.

That was fast. Hoffman already got into his first fight, with T.J. Reynolds of Charlotte.

I am excited now. He can fight as much as he wants! I don't mind.
