The
Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with rookie forward Alex Belzile. In a separate transaction, defenseman Sean Duddy has announced his retirement.
Belzile earned 92 points (22 goals, 70 assists) in 63 games last season with the Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He had 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 21 playoff games with Rimouski.
The St-Eloi, Quebec native skated three seasons in the QMJHL with Rimouski. He earned 183 points (59 goals, 124 assists) in 158 career junior games with the Oceanic from 2009 through 2012.
The 5-foot-11, 188-pound forward began the season with Wheeling but did not appear in a game with the Nailers. He was released by Wheeling on October 18th.
Duddy retires after he skated in 11 games this season with Gwinnett. He earned four points, all assists, while with the Gladiators. He began his professional career last year with the Gladiators after he completed his senior season at Ohio State University. He earned four points (one goal, three assists) in seven games with Gwinnett.
