Bulls Sign Trevor Hendrikx

San Francisco, Calif. – The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today the signing of defenseman Trevor Hendrikx. The Bulls have a total of 10 players, including three defensemen on their inaugural 2012-13 season roster.

“Trevor is another good addition to our defensive unit that we anticipate to be a solid shut down group,” said SF Bulls President and Head Coach Pat Curcio. “Knowing Trevor from the OHL, and having the luxury of coaching him in a tournament in Europe, I’m confident he’ll be one of the top all-around defensemen in the ECHL this season.”

Hendrikx, 27, brings six years of professional experience to the Bulls’ backline. The 6-foot, 2-inch, 205-pound blueliner played last season with Allen of the Central Hockey League (CHL) and Hamilton of the American Hockey League (AHL). Hendrikx recorded 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) and 136 penalty minutes in 45 games with Allen. A native of Russell, Ontario, Hendrikx twice led Johnstown of the ECHL in points with 164 in 2009-10 and 145 in 2008-09. In 221 career ECHL games, Hendrikx has recorded 95 points (30 goals, 65 assists) and 625 penalty minutes. Hendrikx was twice drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets, most recently in the seventh round, 201st overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He helped lead Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to the championship and the Memorial Cup. He ranked first in defense scoring on Peterborough his final two seasons (2004-06).

“I’m excited to join the Bulls organization,” said Hendrikx. “We’re putting together a good team and have a great coach. It’s a good operation, and I’m excited to get the season started. It’s great for San Francisco to get a team back. We’re going to put a good product on the ice and will hopefully get a good turnout at the games.”

Looks like San Fran is turning to the tough guys to create their fan base. With the signing of Hendrikx, they also have veteran tough guys Frank and Benson.

They have a couple prospect tough guys in King and Belan, who will be looking to make a name for themselves this season.

Then there is Chris Lawrence and Jonathan Lessard, who will probably drop the gloves a few times this season.

I like the direction they are going, and the rest of the Western ECHL should take notice. They're in for some rough games.

The San Francisco/Stockton games should be very interesting, especially if the Thunder are even half as tough as they were last year.
