Augusta Lynx Suspend Operations

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL announced that the Augusta Lynx have suspended operations, effective immediately and voluntarily relinquished their membership back to the League.

The move comes as a result of the Augusta ownership group being unable to continue to operate in 2008-09.

“We are very disappointed for our fans, league partners and the other member teams of the ECHL,” said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. “The ECHL would like to thank the Lynx fans for all of their support.”

Augusta players will immediately become unrestricted free agents.

The league announced that the Augusta at Mississippi on Thursday and the Gwinnett at Charlotte games on Thursday have been cancelled.

It was also announced that Gwinnett will play at Mississippi on Friday and Saturday while Charlotte will play at South Carolina on Saturday.

Other game changes have Gwinnett playing at Mississippi on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 and traveling to Charlotte on Dec. 19 while South Carolina will play at Charlotte on Dec. 21.

The league said that work has begun on a revised version of the playing schedule which will be released as soon as possible.

It was just a matter of time. After this year I wouldnt be surprised if a couple more teams folded too.

Ironically Charlotte may be one along with Mississippi.

Kinda feel bad for John Marks, he's been snake bit the last few years.

OH Yea, VF as I was reading this on the ECHL website you must have been posting it here.

I wish someone could afford to bring them back to Raleigh. Maybe with hockey being bigger here that it was 10 years ago they could do well financially. Not to mention it would be nice to have a cheap game to go to every now and then. Just hope they get something together no matter what. It's never good to have one less team in existence, that just means 20 or so guys who don't get to play hockey for a living.

One of my favorite all time jerseys.

Well the players arent gonna be too screwed. Most will be picked up immediatly by the 3 AA leagues.

Great bunch of kids on the Lynx. Actually a decent hockey town.

I feel bad for the Players...

Goalie Mike Brodeur is going to be a steal for some team
I am a fan of Patrick Bordeleau...Some people are not.
Cody Blanshan is a decent defensemen
Matt Auffery is a decent winger.

I am throwing my complete 100% support behind the Checkers...Their owner and fan base are fantastic people.

I dont care about losing my 1200 bucks for season tickets...I kinda do...I will miss watching the kids on the ice....I have a 2 hour drive to Charleston and Charlotte.

I was born in Pittsburgh...We almost lost the Pirates...I'm freaking stunned...I was a rabid support of the ECHL and the Lynx and I feel screwed by both groups

You will NOT lose you money for the tickets. We thought that when the Pilots folded but the league makes sure that season ticket holders are reimbursed for their unused tickets.

Broduer is a SOLID golie, the guys got a bright future no doubt
Im anxious to see where Borderleau ends up, he'll land on a team and be used immediately. I really wanna see this kid do well.

Sorry Indi, I dont know the other guys.

Why didn't they just wait for the end of the season?

Folding in the middle of a season causes alot of havoc around the league with scheduling and such. But I hope they come back because i'm very disappointed that they are ending operations.

Giving props to Hump for starting the thread about the suspected demise.

Hope they can get things back together down there and get things cranked up again.

I feel bad for the players and especially the fans that supported this team.
