As far as "skill" as a dman, he's not all that good but neither are the others. This is a weird category.
I agree that Chara might as well be in the mix. Yeah, he didn't fight much at all this season, but is usually a force when he does drop em'. Almost like Scott of last year....not many takers, but won when there was an opportunity.
As for this year, Deryk Engelland got my vote. The kid can obviously throw em' and isn't too bad of a player/dman. I agree that this category needs some tweaking regarding exactly what the "Stevens" award criteria is. Like the idea, though...

Engelland was my choice. I think if Scott had more takers and got into the lineup more often that he would leave a trail behind him.

I didnt know what the right way to pick this one was. Best fighter who can play D or best D-Man who can throw pretty good? So i went with the second option, and seemed Gleason fit that description the best.

Don't know why I said Scott. I take that back.

Spot-picker my ass. You should know what a spot-picker is when you have Hartnell and Sestito on your team....

This category illustrates how much the sport has changed over the years. It's hard to even come up with blueline guys who combine toughness and skill today much less create a list of the old school guys like Stevens, Ramage, Langway, Larson, Behn Wilson, Maxwell, Manson, Steve Smith, Beck, Gill etc. etc. etc. - and even the superstars like Orr, Robinson, Park and Potvin could fight if provoked. Just a different game. Too bad.

You have no room to talk when you have Chara bailing against legit fighters.

Another wrong winner, I like Engelland but he really went with the pussification this season and he'll be picking his spots/fighting even less next season

and why's this award named after such a crappyass fighter like Stevens?
