2011-12 Grimson Award: Best Punching Power/Most Destructive
Another award that was pretty tough to come up with nominees for. Gone are the usual suspects up here like Colton Orr, Derek Boogaard, and Steve MacIntyre. However, we still have a few candidates who showed off their pugilism skills this year.
Nominees Arron Asham While this award has mostly been ruled by heavyweights, Arron Asham had arguably the most destructive fighting moment out of anyone in the league was his KO of Jay Beagle. In addition, Asham won many of his fights rather convincingly, including bloodying Cody McLeod. Brian McGrattan A more familiar face for this award, McGrattan's shining destructive moment was injuring Jared Boll in a one sided beat down early on in the season. Factor in that McGrattan also had little difficulty in his other fights, and that makes him another nominee. John Scott Like McGrattan, Scott was another guy who was able to just toss around all of his opponents in his fights this season. Scott's most notable fights this year were him bloodying Deryk Engelland as well as him pummeling Derek Dorsett with relative ease. Ryan Reaves Reaves is a sleeper pick on this list. But very quietly, he had a decently destructive season. Highlights include his TKO wins over Zack Stortini and Joe Finley. Reaves also showed his strength by handling Deryk Engelland and Brad Staubitz rather easily this season. My pick Once again, without on the usual suspects up here, there's really no clear winner. You have a few guys on here who are known for being tough, which is one of the reasons attributed to their low fight totals. You also have a young guy who is still making a name for himself in this league as well as a guy like Asham, who is still a middleweight gunning for predominantly heavyweight favored award. Through all of this, my pick is Arron Asham. His KO win over Jay Beagle really showed his dangerous he is when the gloves come off as Beagle missed a significant part of the season after this fight. Past winners 2005-06: Derek Boogaard 2006-07: Derek Boogaard 2007-08: Colton Orr 2008-09: Eric Godard 2009-10: Colton Orr 2010-11: Steve MacIntyre

Got to go with Asham on this one,,, His size and his power are both misleading,, he does damage..

I went with John Scott, the things he does to opponents is pretty crazy, which is mostly because he's 6'8, but also a skilled fighter.

This isn't going to be a popular pick but Ryan Reaves seems to have a heavy punch and I think he is gonna be better next year

If Scott would actually get angry, I think he can destroy anyone in the league and that's what this is about, he has the most destructive power, he just has to use it more.
I think he's afraid to hurt people.

McGrattan was easily the most destructive this year. Asham is powerful but he still is a middleweight, can't compare his punching power with guys much bigger.
