2011-12 Fight of the Year

And here we are. The fight you will show your friends, coworkers and family when you want to show off the best fight from this past year, the fight of the year.

Nominees

Tanner Glass vs. Cody McCormick Nov 8, 2011

Jay Rosehill vs. Brian McGrattan Nov 17, 2011

Eric Boulton vs. Chris Neil Jan 2nd, 2012

Cam Janssen vs. Micheal Haley Nov 25, 2011

Mike Brown vs. Kris Newbury Oct 27, 2011

My Pick

Some flat out disgusting punch in the face contests this year. Some all too common names of course grace this list in Brian McGrattan, Jay Rosehill and Eric Boulton.

This year, I'm going to go with the two heavy weights that really didn't care for defense and decided punching in the opponent in the face was the best defense... Jay Rosehill vs. Brian McGrattan. It was a tuck your chin and wing'em affair and boy was that a knuckle bruising, helmet busting beauty.

Definitely Rosehill vs McGrattan.

Rosehill v McGrattan got my vote, was close for me with Brown v Newburry, Brown weakened his knees twice that fight, despite Newburry getting the jump.

Michael Haley

Rosehill didn't land a punch, so I don't know how that fight can get a nod. Haley's was a great draw, but as an Islander fan, I have to go with him. See: Haley vs. Avery, though that was last season.

I'd take Boulton vs. Neil

For me the best fight is Rosehill VS. McGrattan

Rosehill vs McGrattan was a solid 9/10.

Jay Rosehill for sure isn't the greatest heavyweight out there but he is involved for two years in a row in a fight that's FOTY candidate.

Rosie and McGrattan win this award.

Went with Janssen-Haley, mostly because I saw it live in person.

IhateLindros 05-23-2012 10:34 PM

Went with Grats/Rosie although I wanted to nominate Gillies vs Jansen from the pre season but we're not counting pre season fights in this tally.

I went with the majority and voted Rosehill-McGrattan, but I will say that Brown-Newbury reminded me of one of my all time favorite fights, Churla-Maguire and came close to stealing my vote.

Weak Year

Year of the middleweights. Have to go with Neil and Boulton, the only one in this bunch that wasn't boring or lopsided.

I always love rewatching all the nominees for this award, having not seen most of them for quite a while.

I've gotta go with McGrattan-Rosehill, and I didn't even think it was all that close. Just a real entertaining fight with some serious punches, and they were being thrown with a speed that we don't often see from fights that involve "super heavyweights". It was the only scrap to get a 9/10 vote from me all season, and so it gets the award for me.

McGratten was a one sided beat down. The only entertaining even fight with heavyweights was the Boulton - Neil fight (I call it a draw) so I voted for that one. I was suprised how well Neil did with Boulton who I would have expected to win easily - but on any given night......................:p
