2010-11: Best Player Feud

Nominees

Eric Godard vs. Trevor Gillies
These two guys were the nuclear mainstays of a very brutal and awesome rivalry between the Isles and Pens this past season. They fought 3 times against each other, Godard picking up a decisive win in the first round, drawing in the 2nd, and taking a decisive loss in the rubber match.
Round 1: October 15th
Round 2: February 11th
Round 3: April 8th

John Scott vs. Kevin Westgarth
Westgarth came into the season as a highly touted HW from the AHL ranks, and his first monstrous test against an NHL heavy weight came against the 6'8 John Scott. Westgarth ended up taking a horrific, brutal loss in round 1, in a highly entertaining beating. In round 2, he stood in a lot better and cut down the margin of victory in another entertaining HW fight.
Round 1: November 27th
Round 2: December 19th

Deryk Engelland vs. Colton Orr
Typically a Pens/Leafs game would feature Orr fighting Eric Godard, this past season, he found another Penguin to tangle with a couple times, in Deryk Engelland. The first fight was as entertaining as it gets, both guys swinging and landing before DE landed a devastating bomb flush to the jaw that sent Orr down in a heap. Round 2 wasn't as exciting a fight, nor did it end the same way, but it still saw Deryk taking the win in another fun bout to watch.
Round 1: October 13th
Round 2: December 8th

Steve MacIntyre vs. Derek Boogaard
A carry over from the NW Division days when these two would see each other on the ice a couple times, producing tense moments and a scrap. This past year, they went at it twice in two massive heavy weight tilts. In round 1, Boogaard notched a decisive victory in a brutally one sided fight, entertaining fight. Round 2 almost didn't happen as old rival/punching bag, Zack Stortini was jawing with Boogaard before Mac stepped in for him, and initiated dance 2. In the fight, they both landed some decent punches, neither guy came away no worse the wear though, in a decent HW bout.
Round 1: November 14th
Round 2: November 14th

Jared Boll vs. Cam Janssen
These two guys have never really backed down from anyone, despite being under sized enforcers in the NHL. This year, they added 2 more bouts against each other, pushing their total to 4 fights against one another. Both fights this year were entertaining bouts, neither guy could really get the upper hand on the other as they exchanged punches back and forth. Have to think that as long as they're in the lineup against one another on a given night, they're going to add more fights to their entertaining series.
Round 1: December 9th
Round 2: March 7th

My pick

It was kind of a slow year with Boogaard, Orr and Godard all injured for long stretches. But, that didn't stop things from being fun and brutal when the mitts were off. For that, I'll keep Orr in the award for a third year and just change his dance partner, again... Colton Orr vs. Deryk Engelland. Their fights were brutal, even though DE took the win each time, if Orr recovers from his concussion battle and Engelland finds himself in the lineup next year, you'd have to think this rivalry keeps going and adds even more brutal scraps to the card.

I fuckin love HF season awards.
This one comes down between Eric Godard vs. Trevor Gillies and Deryk Engelland vs. Colton Orr. I'll give the edge to Engo and Orr. I expect them to have some more epic battles next season, especially if Godard doesn't resign with the Pens, that will make Engelland the top dog on the Pens.

Godard/Gillies just because they are both ****ing badasses. They are such stereotypical "heavyweight enforcers"... gotta love the series between them.

Engelland vs. Orr for me because of the impact it had on the hockey fighting landscape. Deryk Engelland came from relative obscurity to pick up a pair of impressive victories against one of the league's top dogs and vault himself high up into a bunch of people's top 10 lists. Like everyone else, I hope Orr is able to get over the concussion issues and come back to renew and try to even up this rivalry next year.

Going with the Godard/Gillies, the war between the two teams was brilliant.

Boogaard vs McIntyre was at the time the fight for the HW belt and everybody was all over it, that's why is my pick. Now... well.. RIP Boogeyman.

Escalate to what? Some shoving next year? Perhaps a facewash in 2013? That isn't a feud... that's a lovers quarrel.

Very true it looks as though Subban would love to go down on Horton
