2009-10 Kocur Award: TKO or KO of the Year

Nominees

Daniel Carcillo KOs Matt Bradley -- Dec 5, 2009
The first nominee of the year is a bit controversial. Was it a sucker punch or just one guy being super quick on the draw? Either way, it was a sweet punch and the results were decisive as Bradley was, in the words of the announcers, left trying to figure out where he was after what hit him.

Colton Orr KOs Matt Carkner -- Feb 6, 2010
In round three of these two fighter's exciting series, Orr gets a big measure of revenge for losing the previous fight as he leaves Carkner dazed and confused. Orr adds to his legacy of one of the best power punchers in the history of the game.

Jody Shelley KOs Colton Orr -- Feb 8, 2010
Colton Orr giveth and Jody Shelley taketh away. Just two days after Colton Orr gets a KO of the year nomination above, Jody Shelley catches him and leaves him woozy with an equally impressive KO win. It was also a case of the new NY Ranger sheriff dropping the previous one.

Evander Kane Obliterates Matt Cooke -- Apr 10, 2010
As the season wound down, Evander Kane delivered a thunderous right cross that decimated Matt Cooke and left him a groggy moment away from a trip out of the arena on a stretcher. Somewhere in the world Marc Savard was smiling, as the victim of a blindside hit from Cooke earlier in the season watched the hockey gods even the score better than Shawn Thornton could. The punch itself was nasty and Cooke was out before he hit the ice. Check it out below:
Kane KOs Cooke

My Pick

As much as I usually shy away from voting for a KO that occurred between two fighting "no-names", the Kane KO was just too devastating to pass up. That gets my vote.

Previous Winners

2003-04: Matt Johnson KOs Andrew Peters
2005-06: Derek Boogaard KOs Trevor Gillies
2006-07: Colton Orr KOs Todd Fedoruk
2007-08: Daniel Carcillo KOs Krys Barch
2008-09: Wade Belak TKOs Donald Brashear

Kane is going to easily win this one. All good choices thou. Shelley's big shot on Orr was a beauty, but Kane gets this one.

All great picks. Bradley is a bitch and he should know it.

Orr got Carkner pretty good 2 of the 4 times.

Shelley added a new highlight reel against a tough tough guy

I gotta go with Kane cuz cooke is a scumbag

Obvious choice: Kane knocking Cooke out. This was the most destructive punch of the year for sure. Cooke was really out of it, almost needed a stretcher.

The best part about the Kane fight is that Cooke was chasing him around, trying to get under his skin.

Not only was the Kane KOing Cooke a devastating punch, but given who the guy on the receiving end of it was makes it extra sweet to watch. That easily gets my vote.

I know Kane's absolute faceplant against Cooke was awesome, but I went with Shelley's KO of Orr, because no one saw it coming

This starts and ends with Evander Kane. One shot, and one punk little bitch down. If it was on anyone else i'd still give him the win. Fact that it's on Cooke is just bounus points.
