2009-10 Fight of the Year

Nothing is more important than this: the best fight of the year. Twenty years from now when you think of 2009-10 you'll think first of this fight:

Nominees

Steve MacIntyre vs. Brian McGrattan Oct 24, 2009

Rick Rypien vs. Cam Janssen Dec 31, 2009

Brandon Prust vs. Rick Rypien Jan 9, 2010

David Koci vs. Brian McGrattan Jan 11, 2010

Cam Janssen vs. Pierre Luc Letourneau-Leblond Mar 20, 2010

My Pick

To me these fights break down into three categories and the voting will skew to which of those excites you the most.

There is the heavyweight battle: McGrattan's two epic fights against Koci and MacIntyre. The McGrattan-MacIntyre fight was truly a battle of two leviathans.

There is the middleweight toe-to-toe extraordinaire: Here Rick Rypien gets into two fights against Prust and Janssen. I think the Janssen-Rypien fight was a notch above all the toe-to-toe fights this year.

And then there is the battle of attrition: And there is no one better at those then Cam Janssen. I've never seen a fight as long as Janssen-Leblond, and although I know people love high octane punch-outs, such a long technical bout impresses me and will be remembered a long time. That's my vote for fight of the year.

The Janssen-LebLond was epic and an all-time classic. I think this fight would be the most-talked about fight from this season.

A marathon fight, which makes McSorley's fights short.

The two McGrattan fights are the best and you could probably throw his fight with Orr in there. Leblond - Janssen should be edited down to 40 seconds when you take out all the garbage. McGrattan - MacIntyre gets my vote.

I'd go with Janssen-Leblond on this one. Both guys were throwing with intent.

MacIntyre v McGrattan...

Two of the toughest guys in the league in a real slugging match... McGrattan won the early stages but MacIntyre came back strong and finished the better.. Overall great fight which I gave the edge to Gratts..

Watching the past winners reminded me of how much fun it is to watch a Riley Cote fight.

I definitely thought the Rypien/Reich match from pre-season could've been on here.

I really love taking the time to watch all of these fights. Some great options. I personally felt the Janssen-Rypien fight was the most exciting, but I was just so astonished at Cam and PLLL's ability to keep throwing punches after all that time that their marathon bout gets my vote. Sure, there were some lulls in the action, but there were still a hell of a lot of fists flying for a really long time.

Surprised that Jansen/PL3 is getting alot of praise. It was a great bout, but slow and long, and a lot of glancing blows or misses.

McGrattan/MacIntyre is also so slow, and drawn out.

I have to vote Koci/McGrattan here.

Janssen vs. PL3 was a great fight, bombs trading back and forth.
Grats vs. Big Mac were haymakers from one and a counter.
Went with the Janssen/PL3 fight, narrow edge

The Janssen/Leblond fight is really good and all but I think it's so well liked just because it's long. That's the main thing it has going for it IMO. I really dislike both guys styles and it shows they can do it all day long if they want. A lot of misses and the same slow paced fight the whole time. Not too much excitement for me.

I went with McGrattan/McIntyre. Two Superheavyweights landing punches in a seesaw battle that went on for quite a bit.

I'm suprised Koci-Orr wasn't mentioned. That definitely was up there. I guess my pick would be Janssen-Rypien fight. Very exciting fight.

^^^This

I am disappointed the Cam Janssen vs. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond fight is the leader in votes. It was a long fight, but not a very good one. Some people seem to go by the length of a fight. Give me a good ten or fifteen second barnburner over that fight any day
