2009-10 Best Team Feud

Again, fighting was at the same relatively high levels as last year in terms of sheer quantity. Few games get out of hand anymore, and consequently the rivalries really don't develop the same level of hatred as in years past when fights were inevitable in some hated series. Here are a few teams, however, that seemed fond of dropping the gloves vs. one another in 09-10.

Nominees

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Florida Panthers (10 fights in 4 games)

Ottawa Senators vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (9 fights in 4 games)

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks (10 fights in 6 games)

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators (9 fights in 6 games)

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (7 fights in 4 games)

Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames (8 fights in 6 games)

My Pick

St. Louis and Chicago reminds me of opening the newspaper as a kid, flipping to the hockey box scores, and trying to envision what sort of mayhem triggered the half-column long ridiculousness that was the essence of those old Norris Division match ups. Give me St. Louis and Chicago.

To me it was aclose 3 way b/w TB/Ott and Phi/Fla and Chi/Stl

went with Fla/Phi.

I went with St. Louis-Chicago. That game they played in early January just screamed out old-time hockey. 5 or 6 fights with everyone fighting.

The Tampa-Ottawa series was pretty good. It seemed Neil and Carkner were having fun during this series. Too bad Tampa didnt have too much answer, just Walker.

Ottawa-TB felt very old school. Too bad it'll suck with the loss of Konopka...

nyislesfan45 07-15-2010 04:36 PM

Lots of brawling between Ott/TB, went with that one.

this ones easy. PHI / FLA

Maybe a bit of a homer vote, but I went with the Blues and Hawks. Those teams hate each other, and the games were just full of nastiness.

Looks like people are voting Ottawa and Toronto. I personally like the Philly games better including the ones in the preseason. Even if there were not great fights in a game it was always still entertaining as hell.

Again, because of Orr's total domination of Ottawa (and Boston by the way)

Every time the Blackhawks play the Blues lately, it seems like a throw back game, the the days of the late 60's and early 70's. Those were the days of epic battles between the two clubs.

Over the last few years, the rivalry seems to have new life.

baldhedjer 07-18-2010 07:50 PM

I think that the rivalry between the Blues and the Hawks has gotten reinvigorated the past couple of season's and the teams just seem to play each other with a genuine dislike for one another. The only thing that could make this rivalry any hotter right now would be a playoff series between the two teams.

Blues 34 07-18-2010 08:26 PM

To me Toronto Ottawa had it all. I couldnt go with the Blues and Hawks because the Hawks lack a Heavyweight.

Philly vs. Fla

(look for Philly - Toronto next year.....should be nasty)
