2009-10 Best Player Feud
Nominees
Colton Orr vs Matt Carkner This four-fight series gave us all sorts of interesting fight endings. Round 1 featured Orr winning with an exciting knockdown. Carkner got a measure of revenge with a punch that nearly floored Orr in Round 2. But Orr got the last laugh with a thunderous knockout in Round 3. By the time they got to Round 4 I was gassed from the first three. An exciting story of revenge and counter-revenge. Round 1: November 17 Round 2: December 14 Round 3: February 6 Round 4: March 6 Brad May vs. Krys Barch These two hooked up for two excellent fights as winter set in on the 09-10 season. Ordinarily it might not be enough for a nomination, but with the history these guys have, we have to give them a nod. Two years ago they lit up the hockey fight world with an amazing 4 fight series that won this award and the two entries from this year are icing on the cake on one of the best rivalries in recent memory. Round 1: November 18 Round 2: December 19 Bonus Coverage: Their 4-fight series from 2007-08 Rick Rypien vs. Brandon Prust There's something about fighting Rick Rypien that brings out the best in fighters. Brandon Prust had only 4 of his 25 bouts this year rated above a 6.5 by the hockeyfights.com community. Three of them can be found below in the Prust-Rypien series. The wide open series with rapid fire, piston-like punching action from the two middleweights is highlighted by Round 2 (a fight of the year candidate) Round 1: October 16 Round 2: January 9 Round 3: January 9 George Parros vs. Darcy Hordichuk A late addition to the 'Player Feud' category, these two veterans managed to drop the gloves three times in the last few weeks of the season, accumulating an impressive four bouts against each other. Two of the first three were lackluster so they needed a wild punch-out in Round 4 to truly earn the nomination. Round 1: December 16 Round 2: March 24 Round 3: March 24 Round 4: April 2 Krys Barch vs. Paul Bissonnette Krys Barch picks up his second nomination for Player Feud with a four fight series that exploded in mid-February versus Bizz Nasty. The best of these four fights was Round 3, but all four were solid tilts between these two busy middleweights. Round 1: November 14 Round 2: February 6 Round 3: February 13 Round 4: February 13 My Pick To me, there are two incredible choices here: Rypien-Prust and Orr-Carkner. I don't see how you can argue with either of those, but Orr-Carkner gave us the greatest variety with great fights, knock-downs one way, and knock-outs the other way. That gets my vote. Previous Winners 2003-04: Eric Cairns – Dale Purinton 2005-06: Andrew Peters – Brian McGrattan 2006-07: Donald Brashear - Colton Orr 2007-08: Krys Barch - Brad May 2008-09: Colton Orr vs. Eric Godard Last edited by Merlin401; 07-19-2010 at 05:44 PM. |

Colton Orr - Matt Carkner easily win this one. These big boys went to war with each other. After the first time they fought this season everytime the Leafs and Sens played each other there was a high level of anticipation on how there next meeting would go down. Both guys fought with wreckless abandonment. Next season we could see some nice feuds develop out of the East, especially in the Atlantic division where Boogaard and Godard could possible meet each other 6 times.

Orr-Carkner easily the most explosive and most anticipated.

I agree with this year's choice, but a nod must go to Barch-May for carrying their dislike for each other through the seasons.
