This is such an odd category to vote on. Fighter of the Year? Well, if you go by wins and losses, Laraque never loses but he certainly is not the most entertaining or active. He just doesn't lose any fights because of his style and size. That's not a bad thing for him but it cheapens the award in my opinion. He is a percentage fighter who rarely opens up and swings away and even when he does he doesn't connect very cleanly. Are there any KO's on his resume in the last year?
I went with DJ King as being the best combo of activity, entertaining, punch power, taking a punch, and future potential. George Parros is right up there along with Riley Cote. There are so many factors in what makes a great fighter and certainly a great fighter to watch, as a fan. Technically, ok Laraque is deserving but he is boring as hell. |

Hockey fight and Caps fan here. BGL is Fighter of the Year, no doubt. Saw him dominate Brash, but look bad on one punch--although in all fairness, Brash had skated a full shift before that fight. BGL has dominated Orr repeatedly. He's made himself into a fighting machine who hardly can be beaten. The only reason to give it to Orr is willingness alone. For Fighter of the Year, I'd give it to BGL, the one guy who no one on the list really wants to fight.

Its obviously BIG GEORGE. Pummeled everyone he faced including Brash (who he allowed back up 2 or 3 times). The Colton Orr fight was similar. That is, landing one punch after being dominated for the entirety of the fight does not make up for what your face is feeling after a BGL beat-down. Also, the both fights are biased by homer commentary (Caps and Rangers respectively- nothing is worse than hearing a nasty NY accent ruin a broadcast).
BGL critics have it all wrong...Big George IS the best fighter HANDS DOWN. He may not be the best skater and after handing out a beat-down may slip every now and then, but this should not be held against him. After dominating everyone and anyone, time and time again, BGL deserves the title. |
