2007-08 Kocur Award: TKO or KO of the Year

Nominees

Ryan Malone breaks Mark Bell's Orbital Bone - January 3, 2008
Malone surprises us all TKOing Bell. Then we found out Bell would be out months with a broken face and wondered if Malone was giving Laraque a run for his enforcing money.
Malone vs. Bell Jan 3, 2008

George Parros TKOs Riley Cote - February 2, 2008
What a sweet upper cut punch that flattens Riley Cote. This just had a 'classic punch' feel to it.
Parros vs. Cote Feb 2, 2008

Craig Weller KOs Ole-Kristian Tollefsen - February 7, 2008
Weller proves to be a one-man wrecking crew, smashing Nash into the boards, leveling Dan Fritsche, then knocking out Tollefsen with a surprise punch and giving him a concussion. Crazy one punch.
Weller KOs Tollefsen Feb 7, 2008

Riley Cote TKOs Andre Roy's Season - March 6, 2008
In their fourth fight of the year, Cote flattens Andre Roy with a big punch. As Cote and the Flyers got pumped up from the fight in their home building, Roy got more and more incensed. The Flyers continued showing the fight on the big screen in the arena and Roy lost it, screaming at fans and Cote. He ended up making a throat slitting gesture and getting himself essentially kicked off the team for discipline problems for the remainder of the year.
Cote TKOs Roy Mar 6, 2008

Donald Brashear Knocks Down Shane Hnidy - March 8, 2008
I'm sorry if this isn't a real fight, but this was a beautiful sight. There's nothing like a surprise left gloved punch that buckles someone.
Brashear buckles Hnidy Mar 8, 2008

Daniel Carcillo KOs Krys Barch - April 3, 2008
Sweet right that drops Barch. Slightly less cool than Downey-Boulerice, which is really saying something!
Carcillo vs. Barch Apr 3, 2008

My Pick

I like all these in their own way. It's hard not to choose a KO when there is one available but the uppercut on Riley Cote was epic. Win 'Stache.

Previous Winners

2003-04: Matt Johnson KOs Andrew Peters
2005-06: Derek Boogaard KOs Trevor Gillies
2006-07: Colton Orr KOs Todd Fedoruk

Have to give this one to a true knock-out, so the choice for me is Carcillo KO's Barch.

Can't vote for a TKO in this category.

Merls, if you add the Brash/Hnidy one you should think about adding Peters shot on Boll in hte preseason.....unless the preseason doesnt count.

Think Im going for Weller with Carcillo as the second place.
Apart from that you have two TKO's that werent that impressive and Brashear with a cowardly sucker punch that shouldnt even be up there!

Weller wasnt a sucker punch imo as he had the gloves off so what was Tollefson expecting?

Ask and you shall receive. I added Cote-Roy to the list. If you really want to add to re-cast your vote, send me a PM and I can add one to Cote-Roy's vote total (even though your name will still show up for the other fight)

As for Peters-Boll, yes we were trying to stay away from pre-season as much as possible.

I personally don't consider the random punches that weren't in fights to be eligible for this award. Parros lighting up Cote gets my vote.

Gave it to the Cote/Roy fight. Great two punch KO, and the way that Roy flipped out afterwards was priceless.

The Richardson ko/tko on Dubinsky should have been on the list IMO.

Parros TKO'ing Cote gets my vote.

That's easily the winner, IMO.

Man, that was a wicked punch by 'Stache that put Cote down.
