2007-08 Biggest Let-Down
Nominees
Jesse Boulerice He got a rare second chance at being an NHL professional. Philadelphia gave him a shot despite a checkered past. He responded by hamstringing the organization by cross-checking Ryan Kesler in the face and getting a 25-game suspension! He also didn't win a fight, including a bad loss to Eric Godard and a loss to the fellow let-down candidate Andrew Peters. Jeff Cowan Vancouver found a little magic in a bottle with Cowan last year. He even won player of the week after netting a Crosby-like 6 goals in 4 games. Cowan later would add two playoff tallies. Well... that magic ran out. A typically injury plagued year saw Cowan score zero goals and win only 2 of his 12 fights, while being a punching bag to such noted pugilists as Derek Boogaard and Jody Shelley and such non-noted pugilists as Eric Boulton and Ian Laperriere. Ryan Hollweg Weird year for this spark-plug. He was never a good fighter but this year seemed to stop fighting, amassing a paltry 6 fights (of which only 5 were real fights), while only winning one. He hit a lot less after being labeled one of the three 'hit-to-hurt' players in the league. And he lost his job after serving no real unique purpose on the Rangers. With Colton Orr he has a chance in the playoffs but ultimately a down year. Andrew Peters Peters has started falling from the heavyweight favor with a listless 07-08 which saw him go 2-4-6 in 12 less-than-inspiring fights where he was threw more jersey jabs than hay-makers by a large margin. Maybe its time he move to a team in the southeast and finish out his heavyweight career in mediocre obscurity. Its the Buffalo heavyweight thing to do. Matt Walker Seemed to be an up-and-coming heavyweight defenseman for the Blues but took a bit of a step back this year. He had only 3 fights until the last weekend of the season, where he fought an additional 4 times. He only took on one pseudo-heavyweight all year in Aaron Downey. I guess when D.J. King is on your team that is fine, but after a very promising 06-07, it seemed he was due for something more. My Pick Andrew Peters just had such a non-inspiring year, watching him fall from a top 5 fighter to basically worthless was sad. Maybe he'll have a nice rebound next year. This year he was my most disappointing fighter. Previous Winners 2003-04: Georges Laraque 2005-06: Wade Belak 2006-07: Todd Fedoruk |

Andrew Peters by a mile. Maybe getting married had something to do with it.

Andrew Peters hands down.
No question about it. VERY easy choice here. Peters had a bad year of fighting, and just didn't seem interested at all. He was a huge let-down and was just a disappointment to watch. I don't know how you can vote for any of the other guys. Boulerice got suspended and didn't spend much time in the NHL. Who expects a lot out of Cowan and Hollweg? They are what they are - and terrible fighters. You shouldn't get your hopes up for them. And Matt Walker didn't fight a lot, but fighters that are defenseman don't fight as much as forwards. And with King on the team (and Janssen towards the end of the year) Walker didn't have to enforce as much, so I don't really think he's a big let-down either. Peters lost a lot of fans this year and gained a lot of haters. Will he redeem himself next year? For some reason, I doubt it. His fighting style is so boring, so why count on it?
