Springfield, Mass. - The
Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL's
Columbus Blue Jackets, announced on Friday that veteran forward
Ryan Craig has been named the club's captain for the 2012-2013 season.
Craig, a native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, also served as Springfield's captain during his third professional season of 2005-2006, the last time he played for the Falcons. The 30-year-old was the captain of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2011-2012 and 2010-2011 and held the same role with the
Norfolk Admirals in the latter half of 2009-2010. This season will mark Craig's fifth as the captain of an AHL team. He enters 2012-2013 tied for 13th on the Falcons' all-time goal-scoring list with 39 tallies. A 10th-year pro, Craig has skated in 578 professional contests, combining 132 goals and 140 assists for 272 points.
Sixth-year forwards
Cody Bass and Andrew Joudrey have been selected as Springfield's alternate captains. Both players served in that same capacity for the Falcons in 2011-2012.
