Rockford signs Zack Torquato, Andy Bohmbach, and Scott Fletcher

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, members of the American Hockey League, have signed center Zack Torquato (tor-KWAH-doh), forward Andy Bohmbach (BAHM-bak) and defenseman Scott Fletcher to AHL/ECHL contracts, Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Monday.

"We are very excited about adding these three young players to our roster for the upcoming season as they all bring different talents and skill sets, but the one common denominator is their character," Bernard said. "They will all play a role this season in the success that we have moving forward."

Torquato joins the IceHogs organization after leading the Erie Otters (OHL) in scoring in 2009-10. The 6-foot, 195-pound center tallied 31 goals and 62 assists in 68 games during the regular season and added a goal and two assists in four games during the playoffs.

A Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native, Torquato has one goal in 12 combined games of AHL experience with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Torquato was selected 178th overall (Round 6) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Bohmbach joins the organization after skating four seasons at the University of Wisconsin (NCAA), the runner-up for the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in 2010. In his senior season, the Hudson, Wisconsin, native skated in a career-high 43 contests, tallying nine goals and 15 assists.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 175-pound forward tallied 20 goals and 34 assists in 117 collegiate contests.

Bohmbach also skated two seasons for the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL) prior to his college career. In Waterloo, the forward posted 14 goals and 23 assists in 109 games.

Fletcher made his professional debut in 2009-10 with the Reading Royals (ECHL), recording two goals and four assists in 30 games. He also made his AHL debut with the Providence Bruins in his first professional season. The Haslett, Mich. Native was held without a point in 14 games.

The 6-foot, 4-inch, 223-pound blueliner appeared in 236 career junior games between Saginaw, Mississauga, Niagara and Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League (2004-07, 2007-09). He also skated in 14 games for Tri-City (USHL) in 2006-07, recording two goals and two assists.

I guess this move distributes some toughness across the back end as Rockford looked soft on D. Saw Fletcher in Kzoo during the playoffs and he was crushing guys, they were jawing at him, but no one would drop the gloves. This makes for a tough team, Brookbank, Hagel, Fletcher and Bollig(?).
