Pirates Sign Boris Valabik to AHL Contract

Portland, Maine – Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Coyotes have assigned forwards Scott Arnold and Evan Bloodoff from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. In addition, Treliving announced that Defensemen Bryce Lampman and Russ Sinkewich have signed Professional Tryouts (PTO) with the Portland Pirates, and defenseman Boris Valabik has signed an AHL Contract with the Pirates.

The 6-foot-2, 205 pound Arnold played in eight games for the Pirates this season, registering 2 assists as well as 11 penalty minutes. Arnold appeared in 9 games with Gwinnett, scoring 3 goals and adding 5 assists to go with 7 penalty minutes. The 23-year-old native of Pointe-Claire, Quebec was signed by the Phoenix Coyotes as an undrafted free agent.

Bloodoff, a 5-foot-11, 205 pound left wing, has not appeared in any games for the Pirates this year. In 33 games with Gwinnett this year, Bloodoff scored 12 goals and tallied 13 assists with 34 penalty minutes. Bloodoff spent time with Portland last year, tallying 6 goals and 2 assists to go with 10 penalty minutes in 46 games the 2011-2012 season. The 22-year-old native of Castlegar, British Columbia was the Coyotes’ 6th choice (157th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Lampman is a 30 year old 6-1, 200 pound defenseman from Rochester, Minnesota, and had been playing for the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. Lampman has spent time in the NHL with the New York Rangers as well as time in the AHL with the five different teams, most recently the Houston Aeros during the 2010-11 season. In 21 games for the Solar Bears this season, Lampman had tallied 3 goals and 9 assists to go with 10 penalty minutes.

Sinkewich, a 6 foot 3 inch, 202 pound defenseman, was signed to a PTO from the Gwinnett Gladiators, the ECHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes. The 27 year old native of Westlake, Ohio has appeared in 11 games with Gwinnett this season, scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists. Sinkewich has seen time in the AHL with Lake Erie, Milwaukee, Abbotsford , and most recently Bridgeport, where he played in 8 games during the 2011-12 season.

Valabik is a 6 foot 7 inch 245 defenseman from Nitra, Slovakia. After spending the 2011-12 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the 26 year old has appeared in 29 games with Brno Kometa of the Czech league this season, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. Valabik was a first round pick (10th overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2004 entry draft, and appeared in 50 games for the Thrashers during the 2009-10 season. In 80 career NHL games, Valabik has 7 assists to go with 210 penalty minutes. Valabik has seen AHL action with the Chicago Wolves, the Providence Bruins, and the Penguins.
