Norfolk Signs J.P. Cote To AHL Contract

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals have signed defenseman Jean-Philippe Côté ("ZHAHN fih-LEEP coh-TAY") to an American Hockey League Standard Player's Contract (SPC), Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Côté, 6-foot-2, 213-pounds, has appeared in nine games with the Admirals this season after originally signing a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) on November 18. He has posted one assist, 18 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating.

Côté is a veteran of over 400 professional games. He has played 384 games at the American Hockey League Level, scoring 12 goals and 67 points with 569 penalty minutes between Norfolk, Hamilton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Côté has never finished a season as a minus player, posting an AHL career plus/minus rating of plus-70. He won the 2007 Calder Cup Championship with Hamilton.

The 29-year-old native of Québec City, Québec had also appeared in ten games with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL this season, posting one goal and three points with a plus-5 rating.

Côté has appeared in eight career National Hockey League games, all with the Montreal Canadiens during the 2005-06 season. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the ninth round (265th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Côté played 266 career games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League between Acadie-Bathurst, Cape Breton and Québec, posting 19 goals and 103 points.
