Bulldogs Sign Zack Stortini
MONTREAL, QC - Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Club has signed forward Zack Stortini to a one-year American Hockey League contract for the 2012-2013 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Stortini, 27, has spent parts of six seasons in the National Hockey League with the Nashville Predators and Edmonton Oilers, registering 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) and 725 penalty minutes in 257 regular season games. The native of Elliot Lake, Ontario has played in 220 regular season games over six seasons in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, Oklahoma City Barons, Springfield Falcons, Hamilton Bulldogs, Iowa Stars and Toronto Roadrunners, posting 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists), 683 penalty minutes and a +14 rating. Stortini was a member of the Calder Cup-winning 2006-2007 Hamilton Bulldogs, producing 15 points (nine goals, six assists) and a team-leading 195 penalty minutes in 47 regular season games and three points (three goals) and a team-high 56 penalty minutes in 22 post-season games. Stortini played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves, registering 120 points (55 goals, 65 assists) and 746 penalty minutes in 247 regular season games. The 6'4", 215-pound right-winger was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round, 94th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Last edited by chilly666; 09-21-2012 at 03:49 PM. |

too bad that even a guy like Stortini, who is a decent player for a fighter, cant get a 2 way contract in the NHL. The Admirals have barely any toughness at their AHL Team in Milwaukee, so they should have kept him. Good for the Bulldogs who will have Hagel, Stortini and Schultz along with tinordi. |

At least the Bulldogs have Kyle Hagel in front of him, and Schultz is a good light-heavy in the making, I think... With Alex Henry gone I think it's a good singning. Their 1-2-3 punch might be interesting with Kyle Hagel, Zack Stortini and Ian Schultz. And they're going to get a couple of fiesty players with Jarred Tinordi and Nathan Beaulieu. Not mentionning that a guy like Ryan White will play in the AHL considering the lock-out.
I really wonder what is Ian Schultz going to be, one day.

Hey we gave you Hal Gill and party boy Kostitsyn! You fellas don't appreciate anything.
I'd actually love to see Stortini in Montreal for a game against the Bruins. Can you imagine him holding on to someone? Pure entertainment. Maybe Chara could throw him around like Berard.

I have a pretty documented hatred of Stortini bud, I was only joking around, although he's good cannon fodder. Schultz still needs work on his game but he's improving. He's behind Ryan White now, don't see him called up this year (if they ever play) unless there are injuries.

He's an interesting player, like a lot of guys was a bit of a scorer in junior. Had a lot of fights and could play the game. He didn't take conditioning/training that seriously in his first year and it showed - trying to rely on natural strength isn't a good idea from Junior to the Pros. He smartened up quite a bit in his second year off season and put up 19 more points and was in better shape. This should be a major year for his development. He needs to add more muscle without sacrificing any speed. He has decent fighting ability, but needs more strength. If he can continue to improve on his scoring touch, he should be able to be a nice fourth line player in a couple years in the show. Fighting wise I just don't know - sometimes he looks great, sometimes he looks disinterested. He has all the tools, but needs some bulk and some seasoning.

Even though this is a minor league sigining (I think I read he could be given an NHL contract when the lockout ends, not sure) I'd much rather see him no the fourth line than a Mathieu Darche type or so many others like him we've seen on the Habs over the years. Sure he's a bad, boring fighter but I don't mind the way he plays the game overall.

I don't mind Stortini. Weird he gets a lot of flack but Cam Janssen gets virtually none and isn't too much better usually.
