The
Oklahoma City Barons signed defenseman
Teigan Zahn to a contract, General Manager Bill Scott announced today.
Zahn, a 6-3, 210-pounder from Bethune, Sask. played last season with the University of Calgary. With the Dinos, he played in 27 games, scoring 15 points (3-12-15) and serving 75 penalty minutes. For his efforts, he was named the Canada West Men’s Hockey Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the Canada West First Team All Star Team and was the only first-year player named to the First Team All Star Team.
Prior to skating with the Dinos, he played five seasons with the
Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League. In 286 games over those five seasons, he recorded 64 points (12-52-64) and served 549 penalty minutes. He was a teammate of Barons forward
Curtis Hamilton in four of his five seasons with the Blades.
Zahn had the distinction of being drafted twice. He was selected in the 5th round (132nd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks. He re-entered the draft in 2010 and was selected in the 7th round (186th overall) by the
Tampa Bay Lightning.
