AHL suspends Lake Erie's Purinton for 25 games

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. . The American Hockey League today announced that Lake Erie Monsters defenseman Dale Purinton has been suspended for twenty-five (25) games as a result of delivering a hit to the head of Iowa Stars forward Marius Holtet during an AHL game on Oct. 17.

Purinton was assessed a match penalty at 20:00 of the second period under AHL Rule 47.14 for punching an unsuspecting opponent and causing injury.

"An incident such as this has no place in our game," said AHL President and CEO David Andrews. "Mr. Purinton struck Marius Holtet in the head from behind with a gloved fist after the completion of play. This was a dangerous and deliberate action, by a player who is a repeat offender."

Purinton will miss Lake Erie's next 25 regular-season games. He will be eligible to return on Dec. 29.

(I haven't seen the hit), but if things keep up the way they are, crazy/goons will be the thing of the past. Instead, we'll have guys like Laraque saying please and thank you before and after a fight. Wait....thats how things are pretty much anyway.

I'm listening to the Iowa Stars vs. Milwaukee Admirals game and the Ads' announcer just said that the vid is up on Youtube. He also mentioned that Iowa goalie Sauve was "possibly" injured by Purinton in the fray... but I can't find it on the site yet...

I'd be interested in seeing it if anyone can find the video clip. These suspensions are getting ridiculous, but it is Purinton, so it is potentially a really bad act. I need to see it to judge.

Well Aaron Sims (voice of the Ads) can be a moron on many occasions. He may have been hallucinating; just like his homerism when an Ad loses a fight.

25 games. Gimme a fukin break. I haven't seen what happened with Purinton, but I can guarantee you it wasn't worth 25 games. Christ..Domi knocked Ulf Samuelsson out cold and he only 8 games...And Purinton decks somebody with a sucker punch and he gets 25? What is this world coming to. Back in the old days you wouldn't even get 25 games if you punched out a referee. This is just pure bull**** from the so called "New AHL" if you ask me.

Hey remember Purinton has had previous suspensions in the ahl and the nhl so i guess he had to be severly punished for his stupidity once again. Purinton seems to never learn at all playing this game of hockey at all.

I'm fully aware of Dale Purinton and the **** he's pulled in the past, but come on 25 games..Doesn't that seem a bit excessive to you? That's more than a quarter of your season down the toilet for a sucker punch. Unless this Marius Holtet character was decapitated, 25 games is just way too many.
