McIlrath seemed pretty pist off about that hit, i like what he did though protecting his teammate, eventhough Fitzgerald couldn't defend himself

i hope someone gets the tv feed of that fight for a better view of the hit.

if mcilrath is an honest player and fitzy asks him to fight in ADK tomorrow night he better not say no.

That hit looked fine to me, but, clean or not, good for McIlrath for defending his teammate. Hopefully Fitz gets a fair shot at him tomorrow, though.

There was nothing wrong with the hit. And there was nothing wrong with McIlrath going after Fitzgerald. Woulda been a lot cooler if he had of squared up with Fitzgerald, rather than jumping him though. Coulda been a decent fight.

i follow some of the guys on twitter, and they was saying the refs were pretty lopsided last night

Fitzgerald getting a fighting major for that is beyond laughable. They could have just evened the majors out with the charging and fighting.

You make an excellent point but as a Rangers fan, I had no issues with the hit in the first place. That was an oldtime hockey hit that guys like Beck, Fotiu, and Holmgren made all the time that somehow today have become penalties!
They allow all the cheapshots and stickwork and take out the good hard clean hitting from the game!
Between Bettman and what they have done to the game, it is really a sh*tty product today!
I would of given McIllrath a double minor and that would of been it and I'm a Ranger/Whale guy!

Love the hit, love the response, agree that the penalties were way overblown as usual with this league anymore. McIlrath is awesome, 3 games and 29 PIM since returning from his knee injury, just wish the Whale would wake up and sign a "fourth line goon" to handle some of the fighting duties. Haley is a good player at this level and looks like hell most nights with raccoon eyes and cuts all over from having to drop em FIFTEEN TIMES already because they have NOBODY else in the system. Wonder why McNaught didn't get more of a look last year after a solid Jr. career as a heavyweight. Not to mention all of the guys in the ECHL/CHL that are capable of doing the job.
