Czech Republic's Matej Beran and Canada's J.C. Lipon Suspended 1 Game Each
Czech Republic’s Matej Beran and Canada’s J.C. Lipon have been suspended for one game for separate infractions in Friday’s games at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship.
Czech Republic forward Matej Beran received a high-sticking penalty at 1:25 of the third period in the game against Finland on Friday. In the collision, Beran‘s stick came up and he extended his arms in the direction to the head of Finland’s forward Joel Armia. Upon review of the situation, including a hearing with the player, the IIHF Disciplinary Panel decided to suspend Matej Beran for one game. Once contact was made, Beran delivered a crosscheck with two hands on his stick above his shoulder, to the face, causing a laceration. Beran also extended his arms on the follow through. The Disciplinary Panel concluded that the action of Beran was careless, dangerous and resulted in an injury and for this he shall be held accountable. He will miss the game Czech Republic-Latvia on Sunday, December 30. Canada’s forward J.C. Lipon received a game misconduct for a checking to head and neck area against Slovak forward Tomas Mikus. The incident occurred at 13:39 of the first period. Upon review of the situation, including a hearing with the player, the IIHF Disciplinary Panel decided to suspend Lipon for one game. The panel determined that although Lipon did not deliberately attempt to injure Mikus, his elbow to the head of Mikus was careless, and dangerous and the player has to be held accountable. Lipon will miss the game Canada-USA on Sunday, December 30. |
Where do I begin? Like damn, that's one of the best clean hits I've seen in a long while. The broadcaster were talking how good the hit was and then Lipon got thrown out. I don't get it. Sad hockey game when you can't hit a guy with his head down.Is there any explanation why he got a suspension?!
