Canada's Boone Jenner Suspended Three Games for Late Hit on Jesper Pettersson

UFA – Canada forward Boone Jenner has been suspended three games at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship which opens in Ufa, Russia on Wednesday, 26 December.

Jenner was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct penalty for charging after a late hit on Swedish defenceman Jesper Pettersson in the second period of an exhibition game on 22 December in Helsinki, Finland.

The Swedish defenceman was carried off on a stretcher and was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder and fractured wrist. Pettersson is out for the U20 World Championship.

In accordance with IIHF By-Law, Article 501, game misconducts, match penalties or any incidents that occur before, during or after pre-Championship exhibition games must be reported to the IIHF Disciplinary Committee for review and possible supplementary disciplinary measures.

The video material indicated that the hit was late and delivered with no intention to play the puck and with Pettersson being in a vulnerable position. The five-man IIHF Disciplinary Panel is of the opinion that the application of playing rule 552b (Charging) is correct and that it was Jenner’s intention to deliver the forceful check in spite of having the opportunity to at least make an attempt to avoid contact on Petterson.

The hit was delivered far too late. This resulted in an injury to Sweden’s Petterson and for this Jenner is to be held accountable.

Based on the video material as well as the referee’s report and the relevant game reports, and following a hearing, the panel came to the conclusion that the infraction was dangerous. It unanimously decided to suspend Jenner for the first three games of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship on 26 December against Germany, on 28 December against Slovakia and on 30 December against the United States.

Right. So if you have the opportunity to avoid contact, that should be your intention instead of throwing the hit.

Bunch of f*cking p*ssies.

Hopefully this means more ice time for Nathan MacKinnon.

I knew when I first saw the hit Jenner was going to be getting some games. Petterssen put himself in a vulnerable position by admiring his pass, he should have had his head up and been anticipating a hit. Also the guy was taken away on a stretcher for a broken wrist and a dislocated shoulder? What a pussy!

conspiracy theory against canada? damn that's a new one.

the hit was a second after the puck was released along with there being roughly 20ft of ice that jenner could have removed himself from the idea of hitting him. jenner had no reason to lay him out like he did. it was a penalty. if he did that in the ohl, he'd be gone for 10+ games

Go f*ck yourself you little b!tch. He who sits there and complains about the state of the game is now passing that horse sh1t off as a post? If Pettersson keeps his head up there are no problems here, and you know it. You're pathetic.

really troll, when have i complained about the state of the game. i'm one of the few on here who doesn't bitch when there isn't 10 fights in a game or when **** doesn't fly every night. why, because i can grasp things like that unlike most on here.

the hit was late, if jenner was oh say about 15 ft closer to him, it would have been clean and not an issue at all. even tsn said it was late and they're from canada, supporting canada, rooting for canada.

while it was clean, everyone here bitching about it and whining like a little girl is completely clueless must be forgetting that the iihf doesn't take this late hit, target hit thing lightly. you guys complaining on here are the only few bitching about the suspension. get a clue yourself.

This was my argument too. When I saw the hit I said "well he's suspended". It was a clean hit by our standards, but International wise and Jenner is a repeat "offender" (the so- called spear last year?) he's was gonna get it. It's a crock of **** cause it was a nice, clean, hard hit, but the IIHF was gonna get him. Complete joke. If that Swede braced for the hit and wasn't injured, maybe it would have been different. Complete joke.

i thougt this was hocckeyfightsdotcom not hfboarddotcom.

its not a question of canada vs sweden its more about how pussified the iihf is, but oh well its just like the nhl (see aaron rome hit on horton).
