Sim City mess

Sim City Launch a Complete Disaster

Quote:
Good luck trying to move into the new SimCity.

Ever since the city management game launched on Tuesday, countless gamers have found themselves battling error messages and random disconnections that prevent them from experiencing what SimCity was supposed to deliver in the first place -- fun. In response, publisher Electronic Arts says it's working around the clock to try to fix the problems and add more servers so people can play without worry.
Well this is coming off as very disappointing. I don't understand why EA would make it so that you have to be online to play a single player game.

You'd think they'd have game testers or something.

EA released a game with major glitches, errors, and problems? Except for all the time, that almost never happens with them.

Be careful if you can log in, as some players report losing significant portions of their cities after hours of work, because SimCity servers would randomly shut down or the game experienced issues saving to EA's cloud save function. I saw dozens of similar complaints with some light searching. Ouch.
I don't play Sims because I find it very boring but for the people who spend hours making houses and they lose it all, they must be beyond angry. It's like losing XP in other games. Hard work for nothing. Anyways, as said by many before, having to have internet connection for single player is bull crap. I should be able to kick back and relax (K.B.A.R.) and not have to worry about a damn internet connection failing me.

I do. More of the same crap from the big publishers.

As it stands, I will wait for a true single player crack to come out before I download this.

Is the constant online connection EA's way of preventing pirating or something? I don't understand how else EA could benefit by this though.

I hope a single player crack comes out for this. I just told my friend not to get it because of this mess. It's a shame because I love the Sim City franchise.

That, and it also prevents people from 'owning' the actual game so EA can avoid resales and whatnot, instead they are 'licensing' the game out. They also collect 'data' from players much easier.

Overall it's a bunch of horseshit. There is no legit justification for it.

It always does. I estimate about a month before SKIDROW, RAZOR911, or some other crack group releases one.

Sooner or later the big developers will learn that in the long run DRM like 'always online singleplayer' hurts sales more than helps them. It's not an instantaneous thing, but the more they do it the more fans will be turned off and sales will suffer for future games.

Diablo 3 is a prime example, people in denial use the sales figure to claim it was 'successful', neglecting the fact that D3 only sold a ton because of Diablo 2...Diablo 4 will struggle to sell half of what Diablo 3 sold. I personally can't wait to see some of these big developers crumble.

This is whole SimCity (5) launch is a huge debacle for EA that even some of the gaming rags on their payroll can't spin away.

On a related note, I thought this picture was pretty funny, and VERY TELLING!

I never understood this game or games like it, seems like the ultimate waste of time.

This game actually teaches its players about budgeting and expenses. We played it for a while in my gifted program at school.

The Sims, on the other hand, is just about trying to get your character laid.

Good.

I don't want to steal the game, but I just want to play Sim City offline by myself and use some mods and build a bunch of cities. That's all. This online crap is horsesh*t.

On an unrelated note, I'd still be playing the hell out of Sim City 4 right now, but for some reason that game just can not run on Windows 7. Pisses me off big time.

Always online is a great feature because you can view and share resources with neighboring player's cities and stuff! Oh wait...

Hilarious SimCity glitch, bulldoze other peoples...

Awesome job EA. I can imagine the butthurt that would cause when someone finally gets reconnected only to see their entire city bulldozed to dust.

My youngest brother told me you can do whatever you want to other people's cities but the changes you make don't get saved. So the other person logs in and everything is fine.

No.

Sim City is being the mayor of a city and designing and micromanaging a city.

The Sims is controlling specific people (Sims) and making them go poop and have sex with each other.
