Nintendo Power To Shut Down

Nintendo Power To Shut Down

Seen on slashdot...

"Ars Technica is reporting that the official Nintendo magazine, Nintendo Power, is shutting down after 24 years. The gaming magazine has been run by independent publisher Future US since 2007, but Ars Technica's source and deleted Twitter posts say that Nintendo is uninterested in continuing the paper magazine in today's digital age, and also unwilling to convert it into a primarily digital experience."

I wasn't even aware it was still being made, still makes me sad to see it go for good. Who else had a subscription to this great magazine back in the day? NP was a big part of my childhood in elementary school before the internet made it obsolete. It had good features and was something many kids actually enjoyed reading. I still got my bad ass SNES controller moon stickers from there on one of my controllers, all the color has worn off, but it's still there. I'm pretty sure my magazines are stashed in my parents attic somewhere. Anyways...

RIP NP

And for some nostalgia, here is a site with the scans of all the mags, just look at those awesome covers...

I forget how exactly, but I got a chromed out special edition of Jan 1994 edition instead of the standard one.

I had a subscription from late 2001 until mid 2004.

Really loved the magazine. I remember my Dad buying me an issue at Blockbuster on a day where I was sick (he'd usually buy me a magazine or something whenever I was sick). I loved reading it and he then bought me a subscription (I think my parents were excited that I was reading, lol).

They had great strategy sections for games, cheats and easter eggs, and cool previews. This was during a time where I never really used the Internet, so this how I got my gaming news.

Sad to see it go. I really loved some of the special issues like the holiday ones or the E3 issues.

Still have some of their first issues and strategy guides left to me by my brother along with an NES, SNES, and Gamecube, was really shocking news to hear this.

I didn't even know Nintendo Power mags still existed. I haven't read one of those in over 10 years.

I still have every back issue from since when I was six in my mom's basement. The donkey kong country and Banjo Kazooie Preview VHS tapes, as well! I think I started on like, issue 6, and stopped subscribing somewhere in high school, I want to say pre-GameCube launch, but I could be wrong.

Good times trying to beat game high scores, and take pictures of my ghettotasic TV with a Polaroid. I too share the sad nostalgic feeling of you guys.

I had a Nintendo Power subscription for a while, roughly 91 - 96.

It was my number one magazine to look at on the toilet.
