Started a season with my son as a dual player Bridgeport Soundtigers team. I love the game as a whole but heres what I hate:

1. 9 out of 10 times you line the opposition up for a hit and they stop on a dime and you miss.
2. Am I missing something or does the AHL parent club never have injuries and never call up/send down players?
3. The fact that I can NEVER win a faceoff
4. The fact that in the beginning we struggled to score goal but Denis Hamel could easily score 6 goals in one game against us.
5. While we take regular penalties, the opposition never does. We are 20 games into our season and have had 4 total powerplays!! WTF?
6. The fact that opposing players can run my goalie and then score with no repercussions but a guy checks me, I do a triple salcow into their goalie and get a five minute major for charging.

Dont find the skating that terrible

Love the fact that theres no cap on fights per game. So when were losing by 5 goals we can just goon it up with the Gilles//Haley//Gallant line

But i think there can be some tweaks but other than that I think its a solid game.

So i read through this entire thread and am still not sure whether or not I should get this game.

I don't personally intend on upgrading this game with any patches or w/e, nor do I plan on doing anything online.

All i want to do is play the career, season thing (year after year after year), and i want to upgrade the attributes of certain players so that they can be in the lineup more. Is this still possible??

How is the create a player mode? Is it true you really can't make guys role players (fighters)? Is there any way to adjust the attributes to make them more fiesty?

Also, how complicated is the GM mode? Not exactly sure how much i want to manage players in the minor leagues.

The latest roster update was literally just released. It's up-to-date as of this week's games so it should be good.

Well the lineups look good but when I started a GM mode with Toronto, I had to sign a lot of players for the Marlies. They had only one extra player and Brad Ross was on defense.

The GM modes is literally about all I do, and its pretty good. The minors you don't really deal with other than trying to help your stud young talent grow. I thought that was actually there best mode.

Create a player is ok and I don't know if you can edit the attributes, but information and basic things like that you can.

A quick question about NHL and, no surprise, it is about the fighting.

How are the players ranked this year for willingness to fight. I much prefered the older versions of the games when you had a chance to drop the gloves or not (and receive matching roughings). Playing as the Hawks in NHL 11, Seabrook as an occassional fighter was fighting every game because he sees so much ice time. Can I make sure the Seabrooks/Pat Sharps etc. get into 1-2 fights a season and the Bolliogs get into 1-2 a game?

as far as i could tell, in NHL 13, you can't change their fighting tendencies. i'm glad you brought up Bollig, because i tried to change his, as he's set to 'sometimes fights', but i was not able to.

maybe you can now, but i do not believe you can.

NHL 13 screwed-up some of the attributes in the game. Some solid enforcers' fighting skills are set at 75? What the hell type **** is that? Also, why is Pavel Datsyuk rated higher than Evgeni Malkin and Steven Stamkos?


Overall, I enjoy playing the game. I love the skating-engine, it's more realistic. The fighting engine is decent, but it's unrealistic.

I have gone three games without scoring a goal. Theodore, Smith and Rinne can't all shut me out!?!

Played this for about 10 minutes. Can't win a face-off. Rosehill beat up some Bruins then Lucic beat up Kessel. What the **** are players like Kessel doing fight?

When you learn how to win a face off please let me know because I MAY have one 2 faceoffs all season and Im sure they were on accident.

I find that its all timing. Watch the ref drop it and use different techniques with the analog stick. I've done pretty well with faceoffs, actually. Too bad I can;t ****ing score anymore, **** sakes.

Faceoffs: on the dot move your right stick left or right to position forehand/backhand... watch the linesman as he drops the puck and pull back that right stick. I am winning just under 50%.

You can also use the left stick (I think) to tie up the other centre off the draw.

My question on Be a GM, how do I extend an upcoming UFA before he hits free agency. I want to give Victor Stahlberg an extension but can't find the option. Is it only available at the end of the year?

I will also add that it is a great game, I have shied away from NHL games for a couple of years out of frustration but this has got me hooked.

Finally, good work EA. Not the perfect game but a fine effort.

And how do I activate a goalie fight, I have the Coyotes up next and would love Emery to pummel that punk Mike Smith?
