German Ban On Doom Finally Lifted

Saw this on slashdot...

"18 years after its debut, Doom, the game that almost single-handedly popularized the FPS genre (remember when we just called them Doom clones?) is finally seeing the light of legality in the nation of Germany. The lifting of the ban also applies to the beloved sequel Doom II. A release date has yet to be set. I recommend that Germans who have not found some way to play this game over the last 18 years, please do so upon its release. Despite its age, it's still fun as hell. (Pun very much intended.)"

All you crazy Germans can finally kill you some space demons! But seriously, Germany is so overprotective after WW2 it's ridiculous.

Out of respect for KiddYidd, lets refrain from any nazi jokes, I don't want him feeling burned.

The games had a similar rating to that of porn, i am thankful that Bethesda decided to contest the rating the game had received, why no one else ever contested the rating before hand is baffling to me.

Wolfenstein was briefly released in Germany when it first came out but then quickly taken off the shelves.

Its illegal in Germany to have products with Nazi symbols.

I dont know if the watered down version like the one for the SNES is allowed or not. Because even though the Nazis and swastikas on the wall are gone, the game map is littered with hidden swastika symbols.

Loved Doom, Wolfenstein3d back then...
I remember that Carmageddon was banned in UK and the creators didnīt have to make an marketing effort for this game because the bann was the best promotion for them. Loved to spin the car on the pavement and killing 20 people
