Diablo 3

Anyone else excited to see this game nearer to completion?
If you watch the gameplay demo it's pretty freaking sweet looking. I'm just hoping that they keep the online play on Battle.net free like in past Diablo games and not charge you for it like in WoW.

It will probably be released at least half a year after SC2 if I heard correctly. So it's still a ways from being complete. But I'm definitely getting it.

Bump

Release date is 5/15/12

*EDIT*
On a side note, my interest has slowly waned about this title, but I will probably still pick it up.

I'm the same way, my interest has dwindled down (naturally with age) but chances are I'll still get it... well, 100% I will. Even if it's just to do a once through and beat it.

Alright, so who on here is playing this and what are your battle tags?

Mine is RetardChimp#1125, no 'ed' at the end of 'retard'. Add me if you want to party up or something.

Decided to roll a Monk. Beat Act 1 and the first couple bosses of Act 2 last night with some friends...then the servers crashed. Anyways, my roomie lucked out and got a f*cking Legendary off some random mob.

Lvl 53 monk now.

If you've had sh*t luck with drops like me, spending some time on the auction house looking for low cost buyouts is almost a necessity. Going into Hell my Monk had about 8k health and 900-some damage. I spent about 2 hours on the AH randomly looking at items with my filter set to +dex/+vit and <20,000 buy out and was able to fully regear to around 2000+ damage and 22k health. All for about 60 thousand gold total.

It requires some luck, and you got to be quick to hit the buyout button (half the time someone had gotten to them first), but if you are under-geared and getting worked in the later difficulties it's really the only thing you can do.

If they still have diminishing returns on drops from bosses you already killed, like in the beta, I expect I will be doing that a lot once I hit level 60 as well. You should do it now before they implement the real money auction house and everyone and their mother will be bargain hunting.

I also spent about 6k and got Magic Find rings and amulet for my follower, since they can't do anything else anyways, and you get a percentage of their MF it at least makes taking them along semi-worthwhile.

My barbarian is almost 55, I'm in act 2 hell. I only use the AH to keep my weapon up to date that seems to be enough to get me by for now. I've heard inferno mode is just ridiculous.

Some great things about the game, but so many complaints.... why the **** can't we create our own games? That's the lamest **** ever.....since when has the Diablo series ever had no create a game option?

Since they decided that 'always on' DRM was acceptable (reaks of Activision). Not to mention how much harder the game is if you actually have a group of people playing. You almost don't want people to join your game, which should never be the case in Diablo games. And I've heard Inferno is just tediously hard, not 'fun' hard. I'm going to be lvl 60 well before I pass Act 3 in hell difficulty, they have no PvP so I don't know what to really look forward to while grinding to inferno.

The story is pretty aweful as well. As you're closing the hell rifts in act 4 and Diablo - the f*cking devil himself - is talking to you like he's the black knight from Monty Python is pretty stupid. "You may have destroyed the things I just told you were super important...but it doesn't matter, now I have this new thing which is super important..." like clockwork over and over again. Even with 10 year development you can tell they rushed act 3 and especially act 4. Act 4 didn't even have a f*cking town and was short as sh*t in comparison to 1 and 2. I got more and more disappointed as the game went on.

Also, Belial (act 2 end boss) is the hardest boss in the game by far (and one of the most fun), but he still doesn't come close to the difficulty of some of the random blue mobs you will find, where if you get the wrong combo of stats are literally impossible. If they spawn with arcane enchanted/damage reflect/vortex combo then I may as well recreate that game because my monk is f*cked, period. I also heard inferno has more combos which just sounds annoying than anything else.

Anyways, I'm still going to play, but that's mostly because my friends want me to and there is nothing 'better' out there right now.

Diablo 3 Monday design update. I've shamelessly stolen the summary of it from this news post at www.rpgcodex.net

Quote:

Blizzard released their promised 'Monday Design Update' today, which covers class balance, items, expensive crafting fees and more. They mention three upcoming patches: 1.02 - addressing several service issues and hotfixes (coming next week), 1.03 - addressing Inferno difficulty (TBE) and 1.1 - introducing PvP arenas and better legendary weapons (TBE).

Here are some highlights from each discussed game design area:

Inferno difficulty
There's a little too much spike damage, but it's generally at the difficulty level Blizzard wants it to be.
They are working on promoting skill-set diversity among classes. Essentially by taking existing viable skill-sets and making them worse.
They mention players attempting Inferno without sufficient gear. Shop Smart, Shop RMAHmart.

Items
In 1.03, items at iLevel (item level) 60 or higher will have their iLevel displayed in the tooltip. That way, people won't be confusing weak legendary items (which is essentially all legendary items besides a few rings and amulets) with magic and rare items that have higher item level.
They are also working on improving legendary weapons. This will happen in patch 1.1 (the PvP patch). These changes will not be retroactive, meaning you should just ignore every legendary weapon up until then.

Crafting
They will reduce the cost of crafting Blacksmith items for level 1-59. This means that a level 60 item will still cost 60-100 000 gold and not be worth crafting, ever. They will also reduce the cost of gem crafting by decreasing the required amount of gems per upgrade to 2 (from 3) - but only up to Flawless Square gems.

So essentially, their game design for the longevity of the game is that of a micro-transaction MMORPG. You won't be improving your character by your own efforts, but rather by purchasing items from the Auction House and the Real Money Auction House. I've been running around in Inferno difficulty for days with over 250% magic find and I have yet to find any item upgrades by myself - they all come from the AH. Any codexers with a similar experience?

Blizzard also mentions a few Fun Facts based on the first couple of weeks since launch:

- On average players have created 3 characters each
- 80% of characters are between levels 1 and 30
- 1.9% of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty
- 54% of Hardcore players chose a female character
- The majority of Hardcore deaths (35%) occur in Act I Normal
- The most common level 60 build in the game is only used by 0.7% of level 60 characters of that class (not including Passive diversity)
- The most used runes for each class at level 60 are Barbarian: Best Served Cold, Demon Hunter: Lingering Fog, Wizard: Mirror Skin, Monk: Peaceful Repose, Witch Doctor: Numbing Dart

You can read the entire update right here.
Meh.

Everyone but the complete fanboys knew what Activision implementing a real money auction house was going to mean for this game.

Well... real money auction house came out today.

I'm taking full advantage of it... I got a legendary blacksmith plan and I can craft shoulders that sell for about 500K-3M gold or $7-$25 USD....

I've made $250 USD so far today.... lol

if you guys want shoulders made I can make them for you, mats are about 200K gold on the AH and it's 240K to craft it, so 440K for an item that is going to sell for 500K-3M, or about $7-$30 from my experiences. Never sold one lower than 500K or $7 yet so it's all profits so far
