Yeah, I have no idea why a question like that would piss a guy off and make him not want to do an interview.

I don't think any of my questions were laced with sarcasm. Not one of them. I don't think they are one-dimensional either.
My apologies for assuming the sarcasm. My view is they're one dimensional because they all center around one aspect-fighting. I realize this is a fight site, as Mike is known for his fisticuffs. But if I were to go into this interview with questions littered with "fight fight fight", he's not likely to open up as much as he would if you broaden the spectrum a little! Yes, he's an enforcer, but first and foremost-he's a hockey player. I felt it was necessary to dissect his Junior, AHL, and early pro career-go the extra mile with a little more research.

If I wanted his feedback with questions regarding 15-20 fights of his, it wouldn't be a very productive interview, overall.

I'm not a journalist, nor am I a accredited. Nor do I claim to be an expert. But, based on the few interviews I have done, this works well. All of this advice came from Vodkafish and other who are very experienced and well-respected hockey journalists, and it has worked very well.

Was his strategy to get in and get out?
This question was answered in the interview:

Jones: You had a few other frequent opponents, like Rob Ray and Mick Vukota. Did you prepare differently when getting ready for a game against a rival?

Peluso: I didn’t prepare any differently, I just went out there and finished my checks and fought the same way. Looking back, I should’ve had a strategy. I just started throwing. I’d fight anyone. Win or lose, what do you do? I never had a strategy. They were all rivals.

Jones: Did the outcomes of any of your fights effect how you'd go into your next one?

Peluso: No. It never affected me in how I went into my next fight. I just went out there and got it on. I just started throwing lefts. Whatever happens, happens.[/i]

Peluso actually fought Ray in the playoffs in 94 I believe and Ray was sweaterless. Some reports from back then have players saying May was the better fighter until he wrecked his shoulder, and that Ray actually became a better fighter once he stopped relying oh his jersey antics
You are correct. The fight you are referring to occurred in April, of 94. They're was a scrum after Buffalo scored a goal. Peluso and Ray initially engaged each other. Ray had his jersey on that time. One of Pelusos teammates grabbed Ray as the third man, then all hell broke loose. Ray and Peluso went at it again, as Ray was jersey-less, a result of the melee.

May was/is as ambidextrous as they come. Many players have said that as well.

Pelusos balance was more of an issue early on in his career. He used to consistantly tape the hell out of the back of his skates, resulting in very poor flexibility in balance and overall movement. He credits Dave Manson for giving him advice to not tape the skates as much.

But again, thanks for seeking out the opportunity and conducting the interview, and then transcribing the whole thing for us. People that do these things are passionate about it. What's not to like about someone who is doing something that they are passionate about?
Thanks again for the compliment, and for your feedback.

It potentially could, and already has (based on my previous experiences)if the majority of the questions are centered around the discussion of fighting, and only a select few questions are asked about other aspects regarding their career!

vf, rjman48, et al,

sincere gratitude for the peluso interview. this brought back so many good memories.

watched him many times as he brought excitement to a stagnant franchise. his three years as a hawk definitely brought joy to a lot of blackhawk fans.

rj, very good job. my compliments to you and thanks.
