Thanks again very good stuff here thanks to both of you.

Chris Neil has been observed several times, in real tv-video-kind-of-stuff, jumping on the ice after a whistle has been blown, to fight a spent player. What got Bertuzzi 10 games for fighting Parker, Neil luckily avoided many times. In Neil's defence, I haven't seen him jump the whistle since the Cairns fight. Don't mistake Cairn's respect to all pugilists with his indifference to a Neil. Cairns' worries about that draw with Neil as much as I worry about what happened to the last sh*t I sent down the toilet. He showed class. Read the interview again.

He admitted to roughing up Hossa and he was expecting Neil to come. He had no problem admitting he has "bur under his saddle" for Dale Purinton, why would he not do the same for Neil?

What makes one event different from the other? Do you know Cairns personally enough to say what he REALLY means in his interviews?

Yah like BM24 just said. Neil was doing his job. Hossa is a Senetor star player and he came in to protect his teamate. Which was always my argument when it came to that fight. (I always thought it was Chara then somone told me it was Fisher now it is even worse because Hossa doesnt ever drop the gloves.)

Yes it was a show of respect and Class but would anyone make a big deal if it was Cairns coming off the bench to fight Donald Brashear? I think not. (Brashear is a bad choice because nobody likes him so lets say Matt Johnson) It is there job.

Excellent interview Vodka. Thanks a ton!

I think when the NHL starts back up, Purinton can expect big #33 to be right back in his face......I'm a Ranger fan yes, but I hope Dale gets what he deserves.

Good honest incite. It's refreshing to see that some people have regard for what's right... Not letting the team you support get in the way of your judgement.

I'm a Cairns fan, and I can't stand the Sens, but anyone who has a problem with Neil coming after him at that point clearly does not even understand why fighting is tolerated in the first place. Cairns was obviously, even admittedly, out there trying to intimidate star players of the Sens (which he is what he was out there for). Whether or not he would have actually tried to hurt Hossa (highly unlikely), doesn't matter, that is the job of an enforcer, take action on just such a situation; if Cairns was gassed, that was his own damn fault, as that is not for Neil to worry about at that point. The only time you consider that is for a "crowd energizing fight", not the same as enforcing by any means.

The difference is that Neil was doing his job, defending Hossa, and came at Cairns expectedly. While Cairns did know that he and Dale were going to go, he turned expecting a squareoff. Maybe that was partly his mistake, but he was clearly in trouble from that punch and Dale kept hitting him. I for one always held back my opinion of this until the next game, when Purinton elbowed Cairns in the face and then turtled. Cairns then dragged him out of the scrum, released him and squared-up, and Dale hid behind the ref. If he had just fought there, win, lose or draw, he probably would have regained most people's respect (incuding Eric's). If you still weren't sure about Purinton, he suckered Lessard about a week later. Most of my friend are Rangers fans, but none are fans of this jerk.

Cairns

Can anyone tell me if Eric Cairns is related to Trevor Cairns, formerly of the Tacoma Rockets (did a stint with the Rangers in 94).
