Brandon Sugden Unblocked

Brandon Sugden Unblocked
David M Singer
09-13-2008 07:38 PM

I just got a call from Brandon Sugden. Bill Daly called him earlier tonight and said he spoke with the teams that were blocking his removal from the retirement list and that they’ve all agreed to unblock him.

When I asked him how he felt, Sugar said it’s a huge weight off of his shoulders and he’s looking forward to attending Islanders training camp, which starts Thursday in Moncton, New Brunswick. He added that he has every intention on making the team and he feels he can help the Islanders.

The red tape has been cut, and the real hard part begins for Sugden, now 30, about to go to what he believes is the best opportunity he’s ever had to make an NHL team.

Sugar is appreciative of all the support from friends, fans and the media and didn’t have enough positive words to say about the character of NHL deputy commissioner Daly.

Good luck to him.

Hell yeah! Isles training camp should be a war with Rechlicz, Fritz, and Sugden. That combination can make any opposing team/player crap themselves. I guarantee that at least one of those guys will be on the Isle's opening night roster, and the other two will be in Bridgeport, meaning the Sound Tigers will be a hell of a tough team again this season.

This is really good news.

I don't think Sugden will make it, but he deserves the chance to do so.

It might depend on what NYI want from their roster but getting him the chance is all the kid deserves.

What you said.

Would love to see Sugar getting at it in the near future though.

This is a great statement that was made and it proves that people can make a difference. You always have to fight for what you believe in. Never quit!

Thanks to Mr. Daly for reversing this decision quickly!

Thanks to all media outlets, including hockeyfights.com!

Sugden, Fritz, Rechlicz.... What a camp! If Sugden`s skating proves to be at least as good as Fritz or Rechlicz, I think he will have a good chance.

Sugden doesn't have a contract with the Islanders. If he doesn't make the team out of training camp he was looking elsewhere for a job in the AHL (Syracuse was his first choice I believe, then Hartford and Providence).

Talk about a feel good moment.

Congrats to Brandon Sudgen, and much thanks & props to everyone who did their part to get this overturned. Well, gee, I guess the thoughts of hockey fans still matter after all...

YES!!

I'm so pumped!

Sean McMorrow in the Oilers camp, Brandon Sugden in Isles camp. Just imagine if both of these guys spend time in the NHL this year?

I know it's a long shot but...!!
