X Games athlete dies from crash injuries

I like the X Games with all the sick moves preformed. Tragic, so young.
Quote:
DENVER -- Caleb Moore, an innovative freestyle snowmobile rider who was hurt in a crash at the Winter X Games in Colorado, died Thursday morning. He was 25.

Moore was being treated at a hospital in Grand Junction since the Jan. 24 crash. Family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson confirmed his death, the first in the 18-year history of the X Games, which are produced by ESPN.

"He lived his life to the fullest. He was an inspiration," Lawson said.

A former all-terrain vehicle racer, Moore switched over to snowmobiles as a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the sport. He won four Winter X Games medals, including a bronze last season when his younger brother, Colten, captured gold.

Sad for sure, but pretty sure the only reason people watch guys flip machines in the air is to see a devastating result. Sorta like NASCAR, I watch for the wreckage.

It was a matter of time.

You have to wonder if that spells the end of the xgames. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be absurd, but that's how things are now a days.

I'm surprised there aren't more deaths. Hell, the whole point is to be the most extreme. With that comes the inherent risk of death.

The cool part, IMO, was that he and his brother were kicking ass after only 30 days or so on sleds. They were atv riders and made the switch to snowmobiles in a months time. One, if not both, medaled right away.

I admire the hell out of these guys for the crazy stuff they do. It takes a serious pair to jump those heavy ass snowmobiles at that speed. R.I.P. to a true warrior there

X games will not end over this. This is what they live for. The intense adrenaline rushes and death defying stunts. Had he survived I'm sure he'd want to be back doing the same stuff.

I had a friend back in hs who loved jumping his ATV and doing crazy stunts as well. Needless to say he went way to fast an launched himself into a tree dying on impact. Not a day goes by that I don't think of it, but like everyone always told him.."you're gonna die on that ATV." You never expect it to happen though

It's not the "xgames" that would end it, it would be abc or Espn or the sponsors, etc

I hope it doesn't happen (not that I actually watch), but the way corporations overreact to everything said or done makes me wonder how long it will be around (at least in its current form).
